Toshiba TG01 Destined For Verizon?

Our forum member ajac has posted an article from PhoneArena that shows the Toshiba TG01 may be coming to Verizon.  The screenshot is from a CelleBrite machine, which transfers info from one phone to another.  While there’s no Verizon logo or anything else in the picture, its rumored to be from a Verizon store.  While this is no HD2, it is still a heavy hitter for high-end devices.  If this is true, and Verizon ends up with the Imagio and the TG01, it is very doubtful that they will be getting the HD2 anytime soon. showimage.php

Verizon Data Goes Prepaid

Yeah, that’s right, Verizon Broadband Data has gone prepaid! Starting November 16th, the Verizon Wireless USB760 will be available with a $15 daily access rate (with a 75MB allowance). If that’s not good enough, they’re also offering a weekly rate of $30 for 250MB, or $50 per month for 500MB.

The card has a memory slot that will make it work like a USB thumb drive and up to 8GB of storage. Oh yeah, and it’ll work on both Windows and Mac!

Verizon HTC DROID ERIS Available Friday

HTC Desire If the new Verizon DROID is too expensive for you, Verizon is also launching the DROID ERIS on Friday, for $100 less (although you also get less features). It is comparable to the Sprint Hero and will be available for $99.99 after a $100 mail-in-rebate. It features a 5 megapixel camera, 3.2-inch capacitive display, WiFi, 3.5mm headphone jack, and microSD expansion up to 16GB, so you would be passing up a faster processor, physical keyboard, and hi-res display if you went with this device.

Verizon Increasing ETF For “Advanced Devices”

logo_vzw The folks over at BGR have confirmed that Verizon has plans to increase the Early Termination Fee on “advanced devices” from $175 to up to $350 starting November 15th. For every month of service completed, the fee will drop by $10. There’s been no definition of what they consider an “advanced device”, but we’re guessing it will include all (or most) smartphones (Blackberry, WinMo, Android, etc).

Has Droid been lost in the Exchange?

Do you use Microsoft Exchange for work related E-mails? If so, you will be slapped with an additional $15 charge per month by Verizon. Maximum PC is reporting that using integrated Microsoft Exchange will add $15 dollars to your data plan if you also use a Verizon Droid, the highly hyped “iPhone-killer”. The reasoning behind this, at least according to a Verizon spokesperson, is that “The Droid is primarily a consumer phone”.

A basic data plan for this device is $30. Including Exchange, the data cost jumps up to $45. Also, Verizon is planning to offer a $50 per month data-only plan for the Droid. Does this make you reconsider the Droid?

Verizon Wireless Sued over “There’s a Map For That’ Ad Campaign

Recently, Big Red began to market against AT&T’s long running “Theres an App for That” marketing campaign for the Iphone. The campaign, using the phrase “There’s a Map for That’, intends to pun against AT&T’s sub par coverage in areas across the nation. Such ads showing the extensive coverage of Verizon have been done before, but this one is notable for being a direct attack on AT&T’s coverage. In turn, AT&T has now filed a lawsuit with Verizon Wireless over the Campaign, claiming it as false advertising.

According to AT&T, the advertisements are only taking into account HSDPA coverage of AT&T, and not EDGE. According to AT&T’s interpretation of 3G, this is not proper advertising of their coverage. Meanwhile, Verizon Wireless claims their EVDO service to be of 3G. Two problems that lie here are in the definition of 3G, and the fact that the two carriers use two completely different carrier bands to transmit their data (GSM AT&T vurses CDMA Verizon)

The biggest problem to the puzzle is that there is no true definition to 3G (or 4G for that matter) connectivity. Although HSDPA is the fastest speeds under AT&T, EDGE still supports broadband (PC Cards and decent speed internet.) In the long run, due to the differences of AT&T and Verizon’s carrier systems (CDMA and GSM,) it is hard to say the calling on this case, and if Verizon has or has not.

For now, AT&T stands strong with a complaint, request for restraining order, and other documents. (Thanks dslreports.com!)

The guys over at BGR have a source that states Verizon Wireless has plans to take over Time Square’s two largest digital billboards, the NASDAQ and Reuters signs. Verizon is planning on a “first-of-its-kind” interactive experience that will let people control the signs using only voice commands. The image above is a “sneak-peak”.
