Opera has released a public beta of its Opera Mobile 10 browser. So far reviews seem to be pretty good, with people saying its rendering almost as fast as Opera Mini, and the fact that it has some nice, improved zooming features.
Since its still a beta, there are bound to be some bugs. Here’s the list of improvements from Opera:
Intuitive new interface Opera has thrown out the clutter and is keeping it simple in terms of aesthetics. Less is more when it comes to mobile browsing.
Speed Dial Speed Dial serves as your personal table of contents for the Web. Your favorite sites welcome you upon launching Opera, and in one click, you are there.
Tabbed browsing Open new links in multiple tabs to bounce between sites easily.
Password manager Save those annoying passwords with Opera’s password manager, or if you are feeling vulnerable, simply and swiftly delete all.
Touchscreen navigation Opera Mobile 10 beta is optimized for touchscreen navigation. With a touchscreen phone, you can enjoy even easier navigation with our new adaptive zoom feature, kinetic scrolling, and visual tab thumbnails.
Save images Select and save your friends’ Facebook pictures to your phone for offline viewing later.
Opera Turbo Offload your page rendering to one of Opera’s servers, and reduce your data costs.
Advanced compatibility Since Opera Mobile 10 beta is based on Opera’s browser for desktop computers, it maintains advanced Web-site compatibility and ensures that nearly any site is accessible from a mobile phone.
Smooth surfing Pan, zoom and smoothly scroll your way through the Web.
It is free! Opera Mobile 10 beta for Windows Mobile is available as a free download at www.opera.com/mobile/ or m.opera.com/mobile/ (for phone download).

UPDATE 11/13/09 8:30am CST: As of this morning, the mobile Marketplace client is pushing out an update. If you go into Marketplace, you’ll be prompted to install an update before you can use it. After installing it, everything looks the same. The older “hacked” version that allows you to install to a storage card probably no longer works unless someone updates it. The new version is 1.1.1109.0000 with no changelog that we can see.
UPDATE 11/12/09 4:00pm CST: It appears as though Chainfire from XDA has cracked the new “advanced copy protection” today. As he said, this actually took him a couple of hours compared to the 5 minutes it took him last time. You can read his thread here. He said he will not release the “hack” either.
Phase II of the Windows Mobile Marketplace has just hit the public, giving you the ability to buy apps from your desktop (with its new desktop browser version) and install them to your phone later.

In addition, Microsoft has updated the anti-piracy measures it had (or didn’t have) in place, which was cracked within a few hours of the Marketplace release. You can read more about their new measures here. The end-user won’t really see any differences, but the developers are sure to like this new protection for their paid apps.
Microsoft also announced that they will be releasing a client for WM6 and WM6.1 later this month.

Google has announced a beta version of its new Google Maps Navigation program, that will provide voice-guided turn-by-turn directions on your Android 2.0 device.
“This new feature comes with everything you’d expect to find in a GPS navigation system, like 3D views, turn-by-turn voice guidance and automatic rerouting. But unlike most navigation systems, Google Maps Navigation was built from the ground up to take advantage of your phone’s Internet connection.”
Features include:
-Most recent maps (and business listings) by downloading them as you drive
-Search in “plain” English by using the simplicity of Google search
-Search by voice
-Traffic view by downloading live traffic information while you drive
-Search along route
-Satellite view
-Street view
The first phone it will be available on is the Droid from Verizon.
So, will it come to other platforms such as Windows Mobile? Or is this another way to pull people into Android?

Tired of Voice Command? Now you can try Microsoft’s new app called TellMe thanks to our forum member pixelwix. He was at a Sprint store and saw the Intrepid sitting next to the Hero and noticed it had the TellMe app on it. He copied the installer file over to his TP2 and decided to share it with the rest of us.
Some are reporting that it won’t install on their custom ROMs, and some say the touchscreen features don’t work either. Try it at your own risk, but be sure to report your findings!
His original thread in our forums can be found here. Great job pixelwix! Hopefully we can get it working on all devices soon!
