Skype has been available on Verizon Android phones for a while now, but because of the exclusive deal between Verizon and Skype, it was limited to only that carrier. Now that wait is finally over and Skype is now available for every 2.1+ Android phone, regardless of carrier. In the US, you’ll be limited to Skype Calls using WiFi only though. Unfortunately it doesn’t support video chat either, and there’s no mention of future support for it.
You should be able to find it in the Android Market.

No video
No video? Wifi only? What’s the point?
@sbrown2680 – great minds think alike, WHATS THE POINT!
if it doesn’t have video doesn’t that mean you can’t stream live or can you? maybe a dumb ?
cant log on
evo 4g.
fail.
@sbrown2680 – While I agree that it would severely hamper its utility, I often use Skype as a way to connect when I am out of the country and don’t want to pay the super high roaming.
It would be worth a download for that alone.
And I’d bet a cup o’ joe that someone here or at xda could figure a way to open it up more.
nnb
It’s a cop-out. No video calls? Super ridiculous
In the US, you’ll be limited to Skype Calls using WiFi only though?? What kind of BS is this?? you cant use it on 4g? if thats the case worthless.. can someone confirm?
The ONLY thing this will be useful for is making calls when you travel out of the country or if someone in another county wants to Skype you but you still must be connected to a WiFi or you can’t send or recieve. Otherwise this is totally worthless and pointless POS app.
skype needs a true competitor. I hate it, but have to use it (work pays for my account). If yahoo could start making some phone apps and devices, I’de switch in an instance. At least yahoo has actual phone support instead of skypes pos email/forum support that left me without service for days, while yahoo resolves in minutes.
