Rumor: Sprint Giving Up On Nexus One Too?
![]()
With the recent announcement of Verizon giving up on the Nexus One in favor of its HTC Droid Incredible, it looks like Sprint may be doing the same thing in favor of its upcoming HTC Evo 4G. Even though Sprint had an official press release back in March, announcing the Google Nexus One is coming, Sprint's Michelle Leff Mermelstein told Gizmodo that the company wouldn't be selling the Nexus One because of the "upcoming availability of the award-winning Evo 4G," it didn't change much for your average user.
There hasn't been an official press release from either Sprint or Google yet, so this still falls into the rumor category for now.

And there goes the 0.01% someone with sprint’s old plans gets a chance to use Android…sigh…
At same time it also removes notion of an outside CDMA phone ever being used on the locked US carriers
GG
That’s pretty weak because I have an HD2 and I can tell you some people are not going to want to carry 4.3″ in their pockets and stuff, that phone is HUGE and I know there is going to be a demand for a FAST android device not on a 4.3″
I have to say it made sense for Verizon since the incredible is about the same size and more or less the same phone…. For Sprint, I think it wouldnt hurt to have options, but I do understand their reasoning … they pretty much are the same phone… just EVO is bigger… and personally I love the EVO…. cant wait to get my ( tiny ) hands on that sucker…
^^ instead of tiny burger hands, tiny nexus hands lol. It wont be missed by me. I dont carry my phones in my pants pockets.
I think reason for the possible drop of the Nexus one by sprint could be that they most likely get the CDMA Iphone 4G. at least that’s my $.2
they will probably gt the desire/ incredable when verizons exclusive is up NBD
i just want a fast android phone that doesn’t have sense by default, the N1 would of been perfect. i still think i may go gsm with a sim card so i have more options for phones out there. cdma just doesn’t cut it for me anymore.
and NO the iphone will NOT be coming to sprint, keep dreaming!
I guess time will tell. if Aaple wants to get into 4G this year, who’s better prepare now that sprint? and if they’re going to make a CDMA for verizon why not sprint also. again dont get personal this is simple my two cent. lol
I have the Nexus One and for me, its the perfect size. I’m not sure I would want a bigger screen. I’m sure it looks great and good for watching videos and stuff, but it just seems too big for me. Spec-wise, the Evo should be a better device than the N1, just like the Incredible, but I’ve read some reports where the N1 actually outperforms the Evo, even with its better camera.
The biggest downside to this IMO, is the fact that it shows everyone how locked down CDMA wants to be when it comes to phones. They want the phones in their stores and will only activate phones that have an ESN in their system. Google was hoping to change that.
Once the Incredible and Evo get unlocked/rooted, and custom ROMs/Kernels are made, then there will be a lot more options out there, including ROMs without Sense for those that don’t want it.
I do a lot of data entry and a larger phone is that much easier on the eyes.
@tuminatr – AT&T and Apple have a five year contract. No Sprint iPhone this year or next (Verizon either).
On another note, this seemed like a logical choice for Sprint, I was just waiting for it to be announced.
When the hell are they going to start advertising the EVO BTW? Didn’t they learn anything from Verizon?
yeah why have the n1 when the evo is equal to or better in every category?
its not a rumor there is a screen shot floating around that confirms it
@mlin – there are rumors that they renegotiated the deal so there might be a cdma iphone, we’ll find out next month.
@orangekid – I guess we’ll see if they are just that: rumors. Though with alleged images of a smaller CDMA iPhone floating around, it may be a way to release the iPhone to other US carriers in a form that is dissimilar enough to the original that it does not violate the contract. Who knows, just speculating…
@fixxxer2008 – Android has taken over the market in less than 2 years.. do you really think people are dreaming about the iphone?
think again
@mlin – the evo is advertised all over the web
you guys keep arguing about the size of the evo, apple coming to sprint with n1… i’ll wait for wp7 so i can actually sync with outlook client. Iphone can sync with outlook client also because they know how to beg MS for active sync licensing,.you would think google would get on their knees and beg MS also, but nooooooooooo they think gmail is the shiznet. good luck outclassing the best email client, better yet, good luck outclassing lotus notes.
@itster – Yes but look at the way Verizon advertised the Droid campaign: television, internet, billboards, buses, EVERYWHERE! Likely a largely contributing factor to the success of sales. The internet isn’t enough. Look how often Apple advertises the iPhone on television. Marketing is huge in this game! Sprint needs to step it up.
@itster – You can activesync android..that said ms exchange isn’t that great…its actually quite sad that sync is proprietary
@mlin – Well they lit up time square with Droid billboards…but they spent 100m on the ad campaign..that is way out of sprint’s budget to spend..but expect commercials and etc closer to release date..right now all they want to to is build hype..if they over hurry it will die like last weeks news.
