While everyone at Microsoft seems to be hush-hush about Windows Mobile 7, Peter Clein, CFO of Microsoft, finally gave us some information. In an interview with Fox, he was asked “Are we going to see Windows 7 Mobile come out in 2010? What is your plans for that?” His response was “We are heads down working on Windows Mobile 7 . We will have much more to say about that at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February.”
He didn’t confirm a 2010 release date, but he did say that there would be more information for us at the Mobile World Congress.
Watch the video here and go to about the 4 minute mark.

This had better be good, real good.
you know I really think 6.5 was a stop-gap until win7 was released on pc, to gauge the general publics reception to it and any unexpected bugs with the new ‘core’, of course the whole branding thing too.. if the pc side went over like vista they may have scratched for longer..
not surprised but I don’t know what any expect from this build. If anything, I believe this build will be an incomplete build for OEMs to add their information and what they desire on top of it (like htc and sense or even samsung and bada)
I think we will only get one point of view of what we are to expect. but so far, from the few people microsoft showed this to, they have been impressed. I can’t wait till feb 15
@Noir –
Just so you know, Bada is a separate OS and Sense is more like a Skin built onto an OS (WinMo).
I’m really hoping for MS to pull something off that will stop people from saying that MS is dead in the mobile market. I keep telling my friends that MS is far from dead. I mean the announcement of Live connectivity is a huge plus alone IMO. I never thought about them using Win7 as the flagship for Winmo7. It’d be smart if they did. Like,”Winmo 6.5? What’s that? We never made that,” or “From the company that brought you Win7 here is Winmo7!” :p
Windows Mobile 7 demo to appear at Mobile World Congress 2010?
Posted by Rachel King @ 4:13 am 1-31-10
While most of the world will be buzzing about Apple today (and for many weeks to come, depending on how good that iTablet or whatever actually is), there’s some small news over in Microsoft land.
Actually, its potentially big news: rumor has it that Windows Mobile 7 will demo at long last at the Mobile World Congress 2010 in Barcelona next month.
After many delays in actually getting this ready enough for just a public demonstration, CNET is reporting that Microsoft is putting the final touches on WinMo 7 so that it can appear on at least a few mobile devices by the end of 2010.
As details are still pretty tight on the Microsoft mobile code (perhaps since developers are so behind on it), it’s not clear which phones will be getting this first. It probably won’t make it on to whatever the Project Pink device is if that’s supposed to debut in the spring.
They better just release this puppy soon, or they’re going to lose every smartphone manufacturer to that pesky Google and their Android mobile OS.
Anyone else find it amusing that a Corporate FINANCIAL Officer made this statement? I would think someone in a slightly more relevant position would be the one to release this info
@⌥ saumaun ☢ – He let it slip in an interview. I’m not sure if he was supposed to say anything about it, but he did.
