HTC Official Announcement – No More Locked Bootloaders

As they say, straight from the horse's mouth, Peter Chou, CEO of HTC has made an official statement that they will no longer be locking bootloaders on their phones. This announcement came on their Facebook page. There's no word if this will effect the upcoming Evo 3D, or just for their future phones. We're hoping they'll unlock the Evo 3D's bootloader though, even if its after launch. Also, what about existing phones like the Thunderbolt and Incredible 2? Do you think Motorola will follow suit?
"There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened. Today, I'm confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience," Peter Chou, CEO of HTC.

YAY! I was just about to abandon HTC
I applaud them, way to keep development alive.
The development community rejoices!!!!
I sure hope this is true.. for 3D EVO..THEN I WILL GET IT..HELL STILL NO OFFICIAL GINGERBREAD FOR THE EVO…..
@jimzip69, Confirmed by HTC that it does apply to the EVO 3D. Looks like another EVO will be the flagship android device for the year.
One of many reasons why I’ll only buy cell phones from HTC. Used to be Nokia, and not anymore. Never buy from Nokia anymore. Now, it’s ONLY HTC!!!
This is awesome news. Htc is the best and probably one of the few companies that actually listen to their customers. I doubt Moto will follow suit, but you never know. In my opinion Sprint + Htc= Wireless freedom
Man and I left HTC for Samsung! I maybe coming back HTC
.
This is major proof that HTC has what it takes to be a major player for many years to come. It truly is about the customer here even if that customer is a small percentage of the user base, of course we are also the loudest! Good job HTC, you got it right.
If they didn’t mean the 3d bootloader they are in trouble. They thought they heard bitching before.lol i will by the 3d and return it every other day in protest.lol
I love this news!!! That mean hack is free and pirates like me will be sooo happy!
Look what happen to WP7.
Looks like the EVO 3D will be a great success after all.
p.
Does that mean, by chance, that they will release older ROMs with unlocked bootloaders…maybe, perhaps? Then we could get FM radio on the TP2?
**ducks and runs for cover**
