[DISCUSSION] Are you getting a Thunderbolt today?
Most of us know today is the day! Will you or have you already gotten your hands on one? The Verizon Wireless stores are packed and that's a good sign. Maybe the LTE launch with the Thunderbolt will be a successful one. Time will tell.
Did you patiently wait for this day to come? As we mentioned in the article previously, the phone is selling with a $249.99 price tag. The LTE data will be the same rate as the current 3G devices, $29.99 per month for unlimited usage. That's what most of us can be even more excited about! No higher prices, well as of now. Some say that may change but Verizon Wireless hasn't said it yet.
Let us know if you got one what you think in the comments boxes below. If you aren't getting one, why? We want to hear your thoughts.

what kind of coverage does LTE offer as of now? I live in Milwaukee and got an Evo on release date last summer–my phone has yet to experience 4g. Hopefully Verizon has more to offer than Sprint, as we were lied to by Sprint reps who stated wimax would be in Milwaukee by 2011 (not that I believed them or care at all really lol). Still love the Evo, and it’s about time we see Verizon get a similar phone, with some really cool new features/tech.
Oh Look its the Evo with a Verizon sticker… Lame…
@ELOHIM,
My thought’s exactly!
@Sauske,
Here’s a great Idea, lets switch to Verizon and Pay a ton of extra money for the same phone Sprint has had for almost a year… smh
@ELOHIM,
Sigh…
Some people are REALLY uneducated.
Do some research and you’ll see that the Thunderbolt and the EVO are two completely different phones.
I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with the EVO. I really like the EVO, but it’s NOT the same as the Thunderbolt.
I was supposed to get one today but my upgrade price was all messed up so I ended up having to order it online at a discounted price. I got up early and drove to the store after being told it could be taken care of, only to find out they had no idea why my upgrade prices were differing and ended having to order it online. A waste of time, but with a cheaper price and free overnight shipping I’m happy I’ll be getting it tomorrow.
nope not getting a thunderbolt. im getting the arrive on sunday
@eric12341, +1 to that!
My mom is on Verizon, and she picked one up today. I’ll get to play around with it over the weekend when I go to help her tweak it and fix her computer. So far she has stated that it’s “really nice”.
I already own a Thunderbolt. Mine just has the word Evo printed on it.
Nope waiting for verizon to get a HTC trophy……LTE right now is only good if you live in one of the 30 major cities and maybe the other 40 later this year but, if you don’t live in a major city you could be waiting till 2013…
I got one today, it’s a pretty awesome device. To anyone who calls it an EVO with a Verizon sticker, you are absolutely CLUELESS. Watch the benchmark videos, the EVO has 256MB less RAM, and the CPU on the Thunderbolt, while at first glance appears to the same, is 8 months newer, and almost doubles the actual performance of the EVO’s CPU (at least in benchmarking tests). There’s a video on wirefly.com that runs test on both phones, and the Thunderbolt, quite simply, destroys the EVO on every test. The Thunderbolt also displays up to 16M colors, vs the EVO’s 65k.
@brandogg,
lol im glad some of us do the real research before calling it what it is clearly not… There just mad cus there with sprint.. lol
@brandogg, Its not the same CPU…the thundebolt has a 2nd gen snapdragon..aka thats 2x the GPU performance..and as far as CPU I estimate around 1.3x-1.5x…(not counting overclocking)
I won’t see 4g for years, but still thinking about it, just to be grandfathered in with the data (& wifi hotspot?) and to have something with a bit more processing power. Dunno if I’m ready to give up my TP2 though…
I gave on my TP2 last year some time. It was such a pile of epic fail that I shelled out 600 bucks for a Droid X off contract. My buddy who bought his TP2 at the same time as me just broke down and got the Thunderbolt yesterday. He has not stopped raving about it since. It’s like going from an old broke down ’98 Camaro to a brand new BMW M3. I honestly dont know how he was able to endure the TP2 so long.
@crazed_z06, I did the same thing. I had a TP2 and just got tired of it cause it a Window Mobile phone. Of course, I do have a Droid Incredible too. But yesterday I went and upgraded to a Thunderbolt, and the phone is off the hook. It fast, quick, and just plain awesome. And the TP2………. I sold it to a friend for $100.
This phone is badass. Sure, there will be more powerful phones in the next few months, but unless you get a new 4G phone soon, you’re going to lose the precious $29.99 unlimited plan that we all enjoy now, since Verizon will be switching to tiered plans in the near future. Also, the WiFi hotspot is only free until May 15, as after May 15 it will cost you $20/month or whatever. It’s not like if you get it through May 15 you get to keep using it for free, that’s the expiration date. Still no 4G in my area (though the VZW guy said Orlando’s signal reaches them sometimes), but I’ll be going to school in Orlando soon, so I’ll be able to enjoy it then.
Anyway, as of this moment, this is the absolute best phone you can get on Verizon.
Wonderful facts.
i just got mine yesterday and i highly recommend it. it is not just the evo with a verizon sticker. although there are many similarities this is a upgrade from the evo
I LOVE my tbolt!!!!!!!!!!!
:):):):):):):)
To all the tbolt haters.. I have Sprint users right here with me that agree that the tbolt is Badass! just cuz u don’t have one, quit ur hatin.
My ish is faster than my friends EVO.
Just sayin
Got mine on launch day and loving it.
And to the people calling the Thunderbolt and EVO. Please educate yourself before you make a fool of yourself. They’re clearly different phones.
Wow, I just realized that you can browse the web and talk on the phone at the same time using the Thunderbolt – even on CDMA/3G! No need for WiFi, I just tested it myself. Is this the first phone that lets you do this (CDMA)?
@brandogg,
Yup. This thing is the real deal. Im seriously trying to convince myself that upgrading to this from a Droid X would be an epic waste.. Think Ill wait for the Bionic before making a decision..
@brandogg, For CDMA/3G talking and internet at same time is a first in the USA yes…Verizon did mention that feature but stated it may not work in all areas hence they arent actively advertising it yet.
