[DISCUSSION] Verizon now saying goodbye to one year contracts too?!

You may have already heard that Verizon will be eliminating one year contracts starting on April 17. This is not good news to some of us since they also have recently done away with their New Every Two credits and annual upgrades for certain customers who aren’t grandfathered in. Who’s to blame and why is this happening? Are they making the right decisions?

Verizon mentioned that month-to-month and two-year contract options will not be changed as well as stating that “very few customers select one year contracts.” They suggest that eliminating the option simplifies the options available, “reducing customer confusion and questions.”

When you are purchasing your phones at Verizon Wireless do you always sign a two year contract anyway? Does this effect you in any way? Details on the changes are below.

Consumers who selected a one-year contract prior to April 17, 2011, will not be impacted until their contract expires or they decide to upgrade. After April 17, 2011, new and upgrading consumers will have a choice between two-year and month-to-month contract options.

Will this harm or help the company? Do you think the Apple Iphone restrictions have anything to do with it? Let us know your thoughts in the comment boxes below.
