UPDATE: Verizon Iphone Confirmed?

Update 10/29/2010:
Tired of rumors? We are too. This one seems to be final and we sure hope so. Fortune states that yes the Verizon iPhone will be released in early 2011. We are all aware that the data usage on the device is a major burden on AT&T’s network. When asked by Fortune, Seidenberg, the longest serving CEO in the Dow 30 wouldn’t comment on the iPhone specifically, he and Lowell McAdam, his operating chief and heir apparent, seem confident the Verizon network will hold up.

AT&T wishes Verizon Wireless good luck with this great adventure. Larry Solomon, AT&T spokesman said “We carry half the U.S. wireless data on the fastest 3G network and Verizon’s network hasn’t been battle-tested yet, so you don’t know if they can handle the data load or not.” How can he say this though when Verizon has actually had the device for months now in their own testing fields? What is AT&T considering a battle test?

A PPCGeeks member mlin states that “with all the talk about the CDMA iPhone, I am curious who and how many people will be getting the Verizon iPhone. He has created a poll for everyone to give their own input. Please vote and comment. Check out the thread (click here) to vote in the poll and share your thoughts. Below is a screen shot of the actual poll. Go get your vote in!

Update:
PPCGeeks member Boredandtattooed has notified us of the latest rumor going around about Verizon’s iPhone yet again. Will the rumors ever stop or will Verizon finally announce something themselves? This would be the day we’ve all been waiting for!

Now that we know this isn’t just a rumor and that Verizon is going to be getting the iphone for sure, the official details are still rumors. According to Computerworld, a research analyst said today that Apple is definitely on schedule to launch an iPhone capable of making calls on Verizon’s network by March of 2011. Whether it will for sure be 3G or LTE we still don’t know for sure.

End of Update:

Last week we shared an article stating the the Wall Street Journal had confirmed that Verizon will be getting the Iphone. The tipster who provided them with the information didn’t mention whether it would be a 3G or LTE device. Either way, the news happened to get Verizon users all excited and hoping the rumor proved correct this time, with hopes of the device being on the LTE network.

Unfortunately, we have more news that probably isn’t what you want to hear. According to Techcrunch, Apple will take a pass on 4G/LTE networks for the iPhone in 2011. The tipster reports now that the iPhone CDMA model due in January won’t support LTE nor will the iPhone refresh in mid-2011. Instead, Apple will produce a dual mode iPhone containing 3G flavors of GSM and CDMA, which operates on all carriers worldwide. If this holds true, Apple won’t support the LTE standard until some time in 2012.

Once again these are rumors taken from tipsters with nothing proven official. Our eyes are open to any news that hits the internet and we will keep you updated.

The rumors about the Iphone coming to Verizon Wireless have been around for days, months and even years.  Now so long that some consumers are in complete disbelief that this will actually ever happen. Others are anxious to see it happen rather than constantly hearing the rumor with no official release notice from Verizon Wireless.

PPCGeeks appreciates Johnny.Bravo for pointing this article out to us from WallStreetJournal.com.

According to WallStreetJournal Apple is making a Verizon Iphone model that will be available early next year, if the tipsters information proves correct. The Wall Street Journal seems very reliant on the information provided to them and do not seem to have any doubts the tips are false.

Verizon and At&T has supposedly been having meetings, you may or may not have heard about these, discussing and testing the device on Verizon’s network for some time now.  Together they have been preparing for this launch very quietly and it seems the truth may finally be getting out. Verizon is also said to be working hard on avoiding the major data issues AT&T first had when launching the first generation Iphone.

The Verizon model is said to be a fifth generation device with a different form factor made just for that network.  We are curious to see what the Verizon Wireless Iphone, if the deal happens, and the AT&T model will have in common as well as their differences.

Is it possible this could just be another attention grabber coming from Apple?  Only time will tell.  We would like to hear your thoughts and opinions.
