Google Maps Navigation for Android adds real-time traffic re-routing

Google Maps has had a traffic layer for a while now, but Google released an update today which will include traffic information while navigating and will automatically re-route you based on that information.
From the Google Mobile Blog...
You don’t have to do anything to be routed around traffic; just start Navigation like you normally would, either from the Navigation app or from within Google Maps. Before today, Navigation would choose whichever route was fastest, without taking current traffic conditions into account. It would also generate additional alternate directions, such as the shortest route or one that uses highways instead of side roads. Starting today, our routing algorithms will also apply our knowledge of current and historical traffic to select the fastest route from those alternates. That means that Navigation will automatically guide you along the best route given the current traffic conditions.

how does one update with a custom ROM?
Google Maps is downloadable in the Market. If you don’t have the newest version, you should be able to get it from there.
Man, I have been waiting on this from Android… Im gonna have to go driving and get on my wifes EVO to see this in action… I love SPRINTS Nav software because of the turn by turn but this… I think this could be a replacement… jejeje
Are we going to see this on WM 6.5 or WP7 ?
@chong67,
I think that Microsoft may end up using the NOKIA GPS as from what I have read, is one of, if not, the best GPS outthere right now because it not only covers the USA and most of EUROPE…
But this would not be a bad addition to have… Also, I am downloading the update now, I have not had a chance to check it on the EVO…
Oh yes, I get this with my droid x
very nice. I have the touch pro 2… must upgrade.
Google Maps with Navigation has had turn by turn for a while now, thats not new. Just the reroute for traffic.
I hope Google can integrate the additional features that come with Android to WP7
