Mobile Data is Money Honey for Verizon
Verizon Wireless has released its 4th Quarter 2009 Revenue results and there are some stunning statistics. Keep in mind that all this occurred in just 4 months time.
- 162 billion text messages were sent or received (that's 15,625 texts per second)
- 4 billion picture/video messages were sent or received
- 38 million music and videos were downloaded
- Verizon made $16 Billion in Mobile Data revenue (up 31% over 2008) and it accounted for 31.9% of Verizon's total Q4 2009 Revenue (26.5% increase from the same period the previous year).
As texting, picture messages, and mobile data usage increases, these numbers will be on the rise. I am going to go out on a limb and say 180 billion text messages will be sent or received on Verizon for 1Q 2010. Post your guess in the comments below!

I say it goes down, Q4 is when everyone is texting/sending stuff, because of holidays, etc…I’m guessing 150 billion
@orangekid –
Good point, never thought of that.. Plus, with the kiddies in school there will be less time for texting amongst youngsters
You know Verizon doesn’t bill text messages as data. You can send a text will on a phone call, but cant send an MMS or browse the web.
Untrue, you are forgetting Spring break is during the 1Q, and so is Valentines Day…and Easter
I’ll say 190 billion or more to be safe
