HTC Takes Off Their Gloves!

HTC has taken off their gloves and have responded to Apple’s lawsuits by filing a complaint today with the International Trade Commission to halt the import and sale of the iPhone, iPad and iPod in the United States.

Earlier this year Apple filed a similar action against HTC for infringement of over 20 patents that most news reports determined were aimed more to the Google Android Operating system than HTC who builds the smartphones.  Many of the users here at PPCGeeks.com were rather surprised with Apple’s move as HTC has been on the forefront of developing smartphones for many years prior to the introduction of the iPhone.  The “PPC” in “PPCGeeks” is reference to the original Windows Mobile PocketPC Phone which HTC was the innovator and hardware manufacturer of.

In HTC’s press release they detail their position in the smartphone industry as an early player and key innovator.  I gather from the release that HTC is not impressed with the methods that Apple has brought into play within the smartphone industry since the introduction of the iPhone.  You can trace their history and watch a short video of their collaborative approach to innovation at their “quietly brilliant” site here.

As PPCGeeks becomes aware of more details of this filing we will be posting here in our news section.  Check back often or subscribe to our RSS feed to stay up to date.

UPDATE: Gizmodo has posted the patents that HTC is suing over:
