Opera Mini Announced for Iphone, What Does This Mean?

Trying to break a dry spell, Opera has announced intentions of the Opera Mini browser to be made for the iPhone, and to go into the wild among their many other applications. The problem is, however, that Apple has yet to approve a second browser for the iPhone. Will this make any difference?

When one examines the situation, several things are wrong with the picture. Opera has plenty of resources already, namely several operating systems (including Windows Mobile) and platforms. Why go for one that is restricted, not to mention when one already has a huge market potential in the other realms? RIM still stands strong with the highest share of mobile smartphones, and perhaps is even the most in need for a lightweight browser like Opera Mini. Will the iPhone community accept Mini into the circle, let alone approve it for the market? One that has emphasis on eyecandy, rather functionality? Comment your thoughts!
