Many Infuse owners have been waiting for this day for a long time. The Samsung Infuse 4G was released in May 2011 and was promised to be upgraded to Gingerbread, however the update from AT&T was delayed and the device continued to operate on Android 2.2 through the end of the year. Those who own the device will now benefit from improved copy and paste functionality, a redesigned keyboard, improved power management, a download manager and new widgets. The push is not being sent over-the-air, so users wanting to update will need to download the latest version of Samsung’s Kies Mini to upgrade their devices.

On November 10, 2011 Sprint announced the Samsung Epic 4g would be updated to Gingerbread S:D700.0.5S.EI22 over the course of the next ten days. Sprint’s intent of slowing updating everyone to the EI22 ROM is to be able to monitor the process in the event they have to pull the update due to technical problems. Already users are reporting WiFi, GPS, and keyboard bugs which Sprint or Samsung has yet to acknowledge.

For those of us who are too anxious to wait on the OTA now have several methods available (a few of these methods have fixes already available).

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that you make backups of all your information before doing any upgrades, while some methods like the update.zip is rather safe, it doesn’t hurt to make a copy of what is important to you. For those who have clockworkmod 2.X (green one), you should upgrade to the latest clockworkmod 3.X (purple) as old clockworkmod backups will not be compatible.

1) First method is to do a manual update.

a) Go to this link and download the file gTen has provided.
b) Rename the file to update.zip (make sure it’s not renamed update.zip.zip)
c) Place the file on the Root of your SD Card
d) shut down your phone and boot into recovery by holding voldown+camera+power
e) Choose to flash update.zip

Notes:
1 This method will not give you Root
2 If you already rooted the above method will not work
3 This is NOT a custom ROM it is the manual way to upgrade.

2) Second Method Rooting EI22 after OTA or Google update (credits: XDA member metalblaster)

a) Video Provided by qbking77
b) first you need to install the OTA either through the OTA method or through the Google link method.
c) Next you need to go to the ACS forums and Download the ACS recovery 1.0.0.5.tar.md5 file, You will need this file as well

1 confirm you have gingerbread EI22.
2 download the 2 files above (you can use CWM purple version as well if you don’t want the acs Recovery.)
3 Put the su-3.0-efgh-signed.zip file onto your sdcard and turn off the phone.
4 Boot into Download mode by holding the 1 key on the keyboard and the power key
5 open odin and connect the phone to the computer, one of the ID:com boxes will light up to confirm it is connected.
6 put the ACSrecovery.tar.md5 file into the PDA area of odin, make sure everything is uncheck except Auto-reboot and hit start.
7 if done correctly your phone should reboot directly into ACS recovery mode.
8 once in recovery flash the Su-***** .zip file then reboot the phone.
9 If CWM does not stick due to the added script Samsung embedded in the phone kernel you should see below. There are thus far, 2 possible options, Option 1 will give you the Keyboard fix with a relatively Stock experience and Option 2 will give you a Deodexed Rom, nubernal, the keyboard fix and the GPS fix.

***UPDATE***

Apparently Samsung included a script that reflashes the stock recovery upon boot, so if you install a custom recovery (ACS or CWM) it will overwrite it upon boot.

d) (Option 1) Fix so that Clockwork Sticks

i) First Odin Mkasik’s EI22 Keyboard fix Kernel (PDA – Only check Auto Reboot) Then Odin Purple Clockwork.

e) (Option 2) override the built in Samsung issue and make CWM as well as add the nubernal.

i) Follow the steps up until you get into ACS recovery or CWM and flash the .zip in this post rather than the Su.zip file.
ii) This will completely fix your GPS and CWM problems as well as deodex the EI22 version you have.

Big changes are coming for Windows Phone 7 users. Microsoft has leaked some of the things that Windows Phone 7 users can expect with the Mango update.

The beta version of Mango was due to release this week, but there has been a delay in the release of the beta version, and finally there is some news on why. It was leaked by an un-named source at Microsoft that there were build issues with the beta versions of Mango. Apparently there was a faulty script that pointed at a Microsoft Corporate share file that would keep phones from working properly outside of the company.

But fear not WP7 users, your Mango updates are coming and there are some pretty sweet features that will be added to your already sweet phones. Some of those features will include…

Several camera enhancements, including the ability to tap the screen and have it focus in on the item you want before snapping that pic.

Phone lock delay – meaning you won’t have to enter the pin code every time your pin every time you set the phone down. If you’ve opened it within the past 15 minutes you’re good. But beyond that 15, you’ll still have to enter the pin number.

Lastly the “audio stutters” in NoDo and RTM have been resolved

However there is going to be a process for downloading the update. It will be a two part download. You will first have to download a file that will update the Zune software you’re phone syncs with. This update will tell the Zune software where to look for the pre-release update. Apparently the only way to update from pre-Mango to the official Mango update will be to revert back to the pre-Mango form and then to perform the updates. It looks like you’ll have to preform these updates via your PC.

One final thing, the source leaked that the App Hub would be released within a week of the Mango update. So that will be a big thing to look forward to for WP7 users.

It will be wonderful to see the new updates that come with the Mango updates. Check back with us for more updates on the Mango update for Windows 7 Phone!

Verizon HTC Thunderbolt owners have been frustrated about random reboots, battery life, and GPS lock times, along with other issues, since release. The first update cured some of these issues, but some still remain. Well there are now some new signs pointing to an update for June 30th and with Gingerbread in tow. At least that’s what these new leaked images show us.

We know that a fix was is in the works, and it was supposed to come during the second half of June. However, we hadn’t heard any other info about the OTA update, except that MR2 was rumored to have been delayed a bit longer, as has been the case with most every announcement surrounding this device, since we first heard about it.

Well, It seems that this is not just a maintenance release, as has been expected. The leaked document shows some impressive additions to the upcoming update, including features like:

•	Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread
•	pre-installed Amazon Appstore
•	Skype video functionality
•	gTalk video compatibility (which comes default with Android 2.3.4)

So it would appear we have quite an impressive update to look forward to.
Not only do we now have more details, but we have a date to expect it.
So if things stay on schedule, we should be expecting to have access to this update as of June 30th.

What are your thoughts on this update?
Is this a believable document and release date?
Are you excited to officially be getting Gingerbread for your HTC Thunderbolt?

While we don’t have an visual confirmation of this, lets just say it makes sense. We’re getting a report that the Dell Venue Pro is already shipping with the NoDo update on board, ready for some copy-n-paste action—at least in India (did I just burst your bubble?)

Reader Vinod writes to tell us: “My friend just picked up a new Dell Pro in India, and it has the NoDo (copy-paste) update already applied! The moment I saw the copy icon appearing on his phone, I yelled and started trying it out! Works exactly as advertised and in the emulator.”

Like we said, it makes sense. Just like how that leaked Sprint 7 Pro Finalized ROM has now been confirmed to have NoDo on board, we can expect some devices rolling off the factory floors to have the update already applied. OEMs have been working with the update for a few months already, all we know is we’re getting darn close! (Interesting enough, we[source writer] tried every single WP7 device on display at Mobile World Congress, not one had the update applied – looks like Microsoft didn’t let anyone slip it in there.).

So with this exiting news PPCGeekers – can you let us know if you start to see the NoDo update on Windows Phone 7 devices? Let us know in the comments below – if not we should hopfully start seeing the updates soon here in the USA. Maybe just maybe we can get a little NoDo loving in new phones that are on their way our the door as we speak!.

You may already know the Web-famous Windows watcher Paul Thurrott and if not well now you’ve heard of him. He has just come forward with several new details surrounding the upcoming updates for Microsoft’s mobile platform. Keep reading to find out more!

According to Thurrott, two major updates are coming this year. The first, “NoDo” (possibly short for “No Donuts”, will find its way to end users some time in early February. He also goes on to tell us some features to be found in NoDo are the “copy and paste functional addition, support for the Qualcomm 7×30 smart phone chipset, a CDMA location stack and a number of software fixes.”

Thurrott also mentioned that later in the year, WP7 users will see another update currently called “Mango” internally (we’ve all heard about this one), which will apparently bring “Internet Explorer 9 with with the Trident 5 rendering engine, HTML 5 and Silverlight, and gesture support.” Possibly new updates in Mango such as more entertainment features, we will see.

Was this what you expected to hear after all the rumors about the updates coming? I think this breakdown is much easier to understand. Now let me know what you think about it.

Last march YouTube delivered their own native player for our Windows Phone® devices. Although many users prefer to use the built-in application provided directly from HTC, this brought us some nice selection to our devices. Thankfully after a long wait, YouTube has been updated to version 2.4.

today’s release we have added search query suggestions, ‘My Account’ support, and a new homescreen user interface that is optimized for larger screens. Now when you log into your YouTube account on our phone, you can view your favorites, subscriptions and playlists from wherever you are. Let’s say you have recently found an amazing basketball shot video and favorited it on your desktop PC. When you’re at the basketball court with your friends, all you need to do is launch the YouTube app and go to your “Favorites” to show it to them.

Another feature that we have added is query suggestions. When you type into the YouTube search box, you get relevant suggestions. This saves on typing, which is especially useful for mobile phones where text input may be difficult.

Back on Friday Sprint released a maintenance update for customers using the Samsung Moment. The update is not the Android 2.1 update that everyone is waiting for, nor even an update to Android at all, but rather a culmination of patches and fixes. Unfortuantely there is no OTA update yet, though they promise “the ability to download the update directly on your Moment will be available in the near future.” Therefore, a trip to your local Srpint store, that has a repair center, will be necessary. Included in the release are fixes for the following:

Network Assist GPS to allow indoor location fix

Updates to several third-party apps, including Visual Voicemail, NFL, NASCAR and Sprint TV

Change to Emergency Dial on lock screen

Hard reset available in recovery mode: remove and reinsert battery; press volume down, send and end keys until reboot option pops up; scroll to wipe data/factory reset; press OK

Various improvements to battery life

While they all seem to be worthwhile updates, as a moment user myself, I am most interested in the “various improvements to battery life.” While I am not sure what exactly this is, any help in that department would be appreciated. Even with some tweaks and a little common sense I have been able to get my Moment to last more than 24 hours under normal to heavy use, however I am excited about the possibility of even better battery life.

One important note is that many Sprint users across the U.S. have reported issues with getting the update at their local Sprint store. Apparently, as is typical with Sprint, many employees at repair centers are in the dark regarding this update. So if you can’t wait until the OTA update is released, do yourself a favor and give your local Sprint store a call before heading over there.
