Update:
Thanks to our Verizon Wireless tipster we have heard that the Samsung Continuum will be available for sale through Verizon Wireless on November 11, 2010. Two more days! If the tipster is right, the LG Vortex will also be released the same day. If the tipster is wrong, well we will find out very soon!

End of update

The Samsung Continuum and LG Vortex Android Smartphones will be arriving soon to Verizon Wireless stores and online. Launch date is set for November 11, 2010 which isn’t very far away. Following the launch, Verizon will have a total of 9 devices running the Android OS for consumers to choose from. Verizon currently carries the most Android devices compared to any other carrier. According to Gizmocrave, that number will increase soon with these upcoming devices: Droid Pro, Droid 2 Global, HTC Merge and the Motorola Citrus. WOW, they are on the ball with new Droid devices!

The Continuum is very similar to the Samsung Fascinate with its Super AMOLED screen. This feature has been very popular since it was Verizons first device with that type screen. Knowing this, we expect consumers to really be amazed with the Continuum screen quality as well. Not only is it a Super AMOLED screen, it also has a dual screen feature that is called the phone’s secondary display which is inserted beneath the capacitive buttons. The secondary displays menus informing users of notifications such as emails, weather, RSS feeds and more. The secondary display is also called a Ticker that is used for shortcuts. We wonder how the battery life will be with all of these features.

Specs of the Samsung Continuum:

CDMA dual band (800/1900 MHz)

1xEV-DO rev A 3G capable

Super AMOLED display

Capacitive Multi-touch screen

5 MP Flash LED Auto-focus camera

Android 2.2

Hummingbird 1000 MHz processor

336 MB RAM with microSD /microSDHC

MPEG4 video playback

MP3 music player

Here is a close view of the Samsung Continuum. Notice the dual screen feature.

Also coming to Verizon on November 11th is the LG Vortex Android smartphone which is very similar to the Optimus One considering it also has a 600 MHz processor and a 3.2″ screen size. Keep in mind it does have a slightly different design than the Optimus One. Following the release of this the Vortex, Verizon will then have two LG devices running the Android OS. This is great for Verizon and LG seeing the first one was released almost 6 months ago.

Specs of the LG Vortex:

CDMA 1xEV-DO rev.0

3.2″ display (480×320)

800 MHz processor

Android 2.2

3.2 MP camera

Capacitive Multi-touch screen

170 MB memory with microSD/microSDHC

MPEG4 video playback

MP3 music player

Here is a close view of the LG Vortex.

No word on the pricing yet but hopefully Verizon will be releasing that information very soon, possibly having to wait until launch day. Although the LG Vortex may be slightly a lower level device considering some of the specifications, they both should grab attention of consumers who are interested in Androids operating system. Which one do you think will be more popular and why? What do you think of these devices? Let us hear your thoughts.

Verizon Wireless has a couple of new smartphones coming out for the holidays; the Motorola Citrus and the Samsung Continuum. Release date is set for November 11th, which is just the beginning of the holiday season. We can almost guess that there will be a few more devices released by Christmas time, or at least hope so.

What we know

The Motorola Citrus (shown above) is an entry-level, Android 2.1 handset with a 3.0-inch touchscreen powered by a 528MHz processor. The Citrus sports several cool features for any beginning smartphone user such as a 3 megapixel camera, an optical mouse/touch pad, bluetooth capability, Wi-Fi connectivity and a 2-gigabyte microSD card even comes pre-installed. Last but not least we also know this device has an 1150 mAh capacity battery inside giving you at least 6.3 hours of talk time.

The Samsung Continuum (shown above) offers two displays; one 3.4-inch Super AMOLED, multi-touch screen and another secondary panel underneath for notifications and shortcuts. As part of the Galaxy S lineup, the handset runs on Android 2.2 powered by a 1-gigahertz Hummingbird processor. Some cool features of the Continuum include a 5 megapixel auto-focus camera, high-definition 720p video recording, bluetooth capability, 2-gigabytes of internal memory, 8.0-gigabyte microSDHC card pre-installed and DivX video playback.

We haven’t found the exact prices out just yet because they have not been disclosed by the company as far as we know. We do expect them to start leaking out or hope that Verizon will let us know soon. What do you think of these two new devices that are on their way to Verizon Wireless? Let us know!
