Even if your wet cellphone seems dead, there’s a good chance it can be saved. Just make sure you act fast! The longer the water sits inside the greater the likelihood it will destroy the phone for good.

List of things you are going to need:

1. 3 pounds of dry rice

2. Your Lungs

3. Patience

4. Your Brain

This is the ultimate DIY moment. While consumers are conditioned to send back broken merchandise, your phone’s warranty probably doesn’t cover water damage. You probably will not have much luck pulling a fast one on your phone company as most of today’s phones come with a “water sticker” that permanently changes color if it gets wet.

The first step: Immediately cut the power by removing the battery. I know it’s tempting, but RESIST the urge to power up your phone to see if it works. Just turning it on can short out the circuits. If you have a GSM phone (the type used by AT&T and T-Mobile), you’ll want to remove the SIM card as well. Even if your phone turns out to be beyond repair, the SIM should retain a lot of its onboard information, such as the contacts in your phone book.

With the battery safely set aside, you now have one goal, dry your phone and dry it fast. If you let the moisture evaporate naturally, the chance of corrosion damaging the phone’s innards increases. Instead, blow or suck the water out. Just don’t use a hair dryer because its heat can fry your phone’s insides. Instead, opt for a can of compressed air, an air compressor set to a low psi or a vacuum cleaner (a wet/dry Shop-Vac would be perfect). The idea is to use air to push or pull moisture out through the same channels it entered.

Finally, wick away any leftover moisture. The most convenient choice is uncooked rice. Just leave the phone (and its disconnected battery) submerged in a bowl of grains overnight. If you’re worried about rice dust getting inside your phone, you can instead use the packets of silica gel that often come stuffed in the pockets of new clothes. However acting fast is far more important than avoiding a little dust, so don’t waste time looking if you don’t already have a drawer full of silica gel.

The most important thing to remember is to avoid heat. That means no hair dryers, ovens, microwaves or extended periods in direct sunlight. While heat will certainly evaporate the moisture, it could also warp components and melt adhesives. Those fragile glues are also why you’ll want to avoid dunking the phone in rubbing alcohol (Yes, yes. We know you read to do this on the web, but don’t). Alcohol is a solvent and can dissolve the internal adhesives. If you drop your phone in the toilet, (first, eeew!!) second, it’s okay to wipe the outside with alcohol to disinfect it.

One final, perhaps surprising, note: If your phone gets soaked in salt water, you should probably flush the whole thing in fresh water before it dries. When salt water evaporates, it leaves crystals that can damage a phone’s fragile components. Just be sure to remove the battery before flooding the device.

After 24 hours in the rice bath, cross your fingers and power up your device. As she roars back to life, forget that anything ever happened!

So it seems Sprint has tweeted about a new phone coming out February 24th. The big question is what is it. Is it Android, WebOS, Windows Phone 7? Maybe it is an extension onto the wild Evo line, or another Samsung Device....Maybe it is the HTC 7 Pro (Gold_C).

UPDATE: Sprint has confirmed that the device is the HTC 7 Pro coming on Thursday! Through twitter they have sent out a message:

“If you could design a brand new phone, what would it have? Ours will have a hub for gaming, music, pictures and video.” Thats only one OS in the world and it an’t Android! (Although Samsung has been swiping “hubs” for their Galaxy SII Phones…) PPCGeeks expects the next couple days to really heat up on the Sprint Front. How does this make you all feel – any WP7 Lovers around?

So it seems Sprint has tweeted about a new phone coming out February 24th. The big question is what is it? Is it Android, WebOS, Windows Phone 7? Maybe it is an extension onto the wild Evo line, or another Samsung Device….Maybe it is the HTC 7 Pro (Gold_C).

You’ll have to excuse us if we tend to think that anytime a carrier says it has a new phone on the way it will be Android. But seeing how around these parts when it rains it pours, we’ve got a better than average chance of seeing a new Android device announced this Thursday.

But again what will it be? 4G, something with 2 or more screens? How about an Atrix competitor? Tell us PPCGeekers, what would you like to see in the line up for Sprint? Let your words be heard we already know Sprint and others sometimes glance at these sort of stories – maybe we can influence them.

Not only does Sprint have a special announcement coming in February, now HP has something up their sleeve as well. February 9, 2011 at their WebOS event in San Francisco many of us suspect they are going to announce several products, including tablets. Maybe they will officially announce the Topaz or the Opal, two tablets Engadget previously mentioned here.

What’s exciting about the announcement? The email HP sent to attendees asks them to ‘Think Big. Think Small. Think Beyond.’ What do you think about that? It tells me they have a big secret in store! What do you think it could be? What all products do you think HP may have coming up? What sort of announcement do you want to hear? Let us know your thoughts.

Once the announcement is given believe we will be back telling you all about it! For now, discuss in the comment box below.

The content is very large and includes a wide amount of information we have yet to completely unravel and detail upon, but some of the exterior facts are VERY promising.

Mentioned items include:

Detailing of its architecture, everything from the specifics to graphs explaining basics

Customization and Compatibility plans, including with Microsoft Silverlight, Xbox’s XNA system and network, and Microsoft Azure (A Cloud Service for Microsoft)

Explanation of using and maintaining content on WP7 devices, such as internet browsing, connecting to the Cloud Network, Xbox Connections, etc. Included photo shows a flowchart that seems to detail the process of starting up your phone for the first time!

We have so much more to look into and are VERY excited to look into this, for now, a few photos to get your pallet wet!
