So last week we brought up an article of Apple just copying it’s competition, well today folks it seems Google may be doing the same thing. With Microsoft going to one UI for Windows Phone 7, Xbox 360, and Windows 8; it seems Google is going to use the same “Style” of formatting for their screens.

Last month, Google held their I/O conference, where all things Google happens including Android news. They have the “sessions” page where you can go watch all the keynotes and talks that went on during that time period. Which is very similar to Microsoft MIX. Now, this might be old news but still interesting to me as a Microsoft fan person, but the Google I/O and Metro theme look similar? Then, again let’s remember that this idea could have been out long ago and we are just seeing this “refresh” of an UI out for all. But remember Microsoft filed for patent rights on the Windows Phone 7 Metro theme when Windows Phone 7 was still a hot unseen item!

Now here is even a further thing to ponder. Straight from Microsoft Page, and wait for it…YES! Google Wallet – to close to call for my books – but they sure do look similar.

With that all said I would like to see if their are any issues coming to Google for possible copy of Metro UI. What do you guys think, is the picture above close enough in similarity to cause a patents right issue? You be the judge, and tell me below fellow Geeks!

Microsoft has filed for a trademark for the look and feel of Windows Phone 7 home screen and the live tiles it contains. Microsoft goes on to write about the look and feel of the UI that it requests Trademarks for. With the UI appearing on Android, and iPhones is this a smart move? Tell us PPCGeeks is it worth the hassle?

Microsoft has filed for a trademark for the look and feel of Windows Phone 7 home screen and the live tiles it contains.

Microsoft writes:

“The mark consists of eight boxes; the upper left-hand box containing the word “PHONE” along with a telephone receiver; the upper right-hand box containing the word “PEOPLE”; the lower left-hand box containing the word “MESSAGING” along with a character face; the lower right-hand box containing the word “OUTLOOK” along with the letter “O”, an envelope and a check mark; the lower four boxes are empty.”

The design of the Windows Phone 7 UI is perhaps the only one in recent times which eschews the appearance of virtual real-world objects if favour of an “authentic digital” look which has little extras. IT should be noted that this UI has be widely copied, and unofficially by hackers on Android and even the Apple iPhone.

With this move to trademark Metro UI I don’t think Microsoft if going to give up the idea of their UI, and a side note that with it being ported Microsoft might think it has a jewel on their hands. You tell us PPCGeekers…. What does this all mean for Microsoft, and the UI that it gives it’s users? Is it rally that radical of a UI? Why is it so popular on the other platforms?
