We do not always have the chance to say Wal-Mart and iPhone in the same article let alone in the same sentence. But there I just did… Wal-Mart has slashed it’s prices on the current iPhone4 16GB by 25%. The promotion is running just through the end of the month that offers the smart phone for $147 on-contract.

This deal is set for anyone who buys a new 2-year contact on either Verizon or AT&T, white or black versions are also set to sell. Right now the website says depleted so it might be best to check your retail store (yeah the one down the street buddy). With the iOS5 coming out this might just be the best time to pick up the iPhone. With that all said – this is the first and only place discounting the phone, but with the anticipated iPhone4S or iPhone5 coming out we are sure that this is not the last one to slash their prices.

So what is with this? Is this just Wal-Mart selling off stock, or is it more than that? Tell me PPCGeeker’s what do you think…What is Wal-Mart’s trick here? And always remember folks while at Wal-Mart watch for falling prices.

You may remember our article written last month suggesting that AT&T may be capping data on 4G devices, such as the Atrix 4G. According to sources, AT&T is capping data speeds at 300 Kbps which is much slower than the iPhone at 1.5 Mbps.

This was very unusual and several users noticed very quickly. The device features an HSDPA radio that supports 14.4 Mbps, while the iPhone has a radio that tops out at 7.2 Mbps. That tells us that the Atrix should be faster than the iPhone 4 right? Well, it’s not. Take a look at the chart below that’s from AT&T and is based on their data speed tests between the Apple iPhone 4, HTC Inspire 4G and the Atrix 4G.

PC Magazine in return conducted their own upload speed tests using the same exact devices. Their results mirror those of the above report. PC Magazine found that the Atrix 4G and Inspire 4G recorded upload speeds at a rate comparable to UMTS (0.15 Mbps), while the iPhone 4 recorded speeds as fast as 1.56 Mbps.

Looking at the chart and hearing the results from the source, would you say AT&T is definitely capping their data for all non-iPhones? It does seem very suspicious to me, what about you? Leave your comments in the boxes below.

Some of you asked if it would happen, hoped that it wouldn’t and thought you were lucky enough to skip out on tiered data at Verizon Wireless with the iPhone4, but that’s not going to happen. Reuters just reported that Verizon Wireless will replace its unlimited mobile data service with usage-based pricing for iPhone customers around the middle of the summer.

As with any smartphone, Verizon Wireless currently allows unlimited internet browsing for $30 a month, including on the new Apple iPhone 4. Other companies such as AT&T have taken the unlimited internet benefit away and several consumers said it would soon happen with Verizon. Well, it will soon enough. We aren’t sure if all smartphones will moved to tiered data but this definitely lets us know the iPhone4 will.

Now you may ask why would Verizon do this? First they give us unlimited and then they take it away. I can tell you why they allowed unlimited at first. They “didn’t want to put up a barrier” to consumers who wanted to try out the device on its network, their Verizon Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo said.

Shammo also hinted that Verizon Wireless would add another iPhone to its product line-up later this year. This is the reason several Verizon Wireless representatives and forums tried to tell people not to get a 3G iPhone 4. The 4G will be here soon! They didn’t listen though and now are stuck with it for two years. Shame on them!
