You heard it here folks! Our friend Da_G at xda-developers.com has found a way to “bypass” or break the Microsoft Live Activation that was holding us back from making roms for Windows Phone 7. With this all possible we can now possibly port to the HD2 and other Fast Windows Mobile devices. Now sadly I doubt the Touch Pro 2 will run it but maybe the Verizon LG Panther could, along with HD2. Mostly just HD2 ports though as it is basically the same phone as the HTC HD7.

Da_G has reportedly been able to bypass the Genuine Advantage Security protection on Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7, enabling you to get live services like Xbox, Marketplace and Zune working on an HTC HD2. With the Dark Forces Team, the people behind making the HD2 run Android from NAND memory (natively) and MAGLDR – together have gotten WP7 running on an HD2. The only real challenge here was to get the cloud services that WP7 uses to “phone home to Microsoft with.”

Notable, it was Da_G himself who lamentated on the heavy cloud-based security back in November, stating that:

“Nearly all the major functions on the device operate by shuttling data to and from the “cloud”, presenting different methods to the user for getting their data on to the device. However as these services interact quite a bit with Microsoft’s own servers, they have considerably beefed up the security in this area. Each device contains a “Device Provisioning Partition” or DPP that contains a unique certificate assigned to the device at the factory. Each certificate is verified locally by the device in several places, and also uploaded and verified by the “Cloud” for each transaction. Loading Windows Phone 7 on to a device that did not originally come with the platform would result in having an invalid certificate, and these services will not function properly.”

Well apparently he found a way after being away since Christmas, to bypass the Device Provisioning Partition, so that when WP7 build is eventually released for HD2 it should be almost fully functional!!! The Rom will still need to be booted from RAM loader, as opposed to a direct flash..aka Windows Mobile.

Ok WP7 geeks and developers here if you have not heard this yet: Can you imagine with me for just a second: of running a WP7 device on your HD2? Let’s see here that makes the HD2 the best phone right now for OS choice… Android, Windows Mobile 6.5/6.5x, WP7, MeeGo, and many others that I cannot recall right now. But still amazing work, and if true then possibly see this ROM being cooked for devices like the “old days”. I just can’t wait!!!

Tell me your thoughts and opinions below. I would love to hear the haters, the lovers and the fencers on if this is actually a good thing or not! Please just keep it clean! What about this PPCGeekers, is this even worth while to you? I mean I am already drooling over the possibilities here. Let me know below in the comments section.

The HD2 is quite the phone. 1GHz snapdragon, 4.3 inch screen. To me it is the perfect phone. All that remained to be seen is if it was coming to my carrier (which is Sprint btw). Unfortunately, it is not to be. T-Mobile has confirmed that it will be the carrier to officially bring the HD2 to the United States. The only carrier according to the picture below.

The only question that remains is why are they waiting so long? The HD2 will be released in the Spring of 2010, at which point the Touch Pro3 might make an appearance. The TP3 may cause people to withold purchasing the HD2 as they may want the TP3 more than they do the HD2. Leave your thoughts in the comments.

According to Slashgear looks like the HTC HD2 AKA the Leo will grace the US after all. The HD2 will be sporting Windows Mobile 6.5 on a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, with a 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen and 5-megapixel autofocus camera; it’s also the first Windows Phone to support both multi-touch and HTC Sense.

Perhaps best of all, HTC CEO Peter Chou has confirmed that HTC will be offering a US 3G version of the HD2 in Q1 2010.

The HD2 has managed to pack in a display half an inch bigger than that of the Touch HD but with only a minimal increase in size – it measures 120.5 x 67 x 11 mm and weighs 157g with the 1,230mAh battery – thanks to the dramatically thin bezel. The HD2 offers HSPA/WCDMA (900/2100) and quadband GSM, WiFi b/g and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. It also had a 3.5mm headphones socket and microUSB port, accelerometer, proximity sensor and ambient light sensor. Runtime estimates from the standard 1,230mAh battery are up to 320 minutes WCDMA talktime or 390 hours standby; alternatively you can watch up to 8hrs of video or listen to up to 12hrs of music.

Speculation from WMExperts claims that Verizon can be ruled out since the launch of the HTC Imagio and has also ruled out AT&T because of the Pure. For now all we can do is sit back and wait.
