We’ve all seen some crazy lawsuits in the past. Everything from spilled coffee to burgalers suing homeowners when they became injured trying to rob the home. But this may take the cake. If there was any doubt in your mind that Apple was only after the money, this should clear it up.

Apple is suing Amazon over the name of the Amazon Appstore. Apple claims that Amazon using the word “App” in their store title will cause confusion among users and will cause irreparable damage and cause them to lose clients. They claim that customers will be unclear by the store name.

While the lawsuit still rages between Apple and Amazon, it would appear that it is a losing battle for Apple. According to Judge Phyllis Hamilton Apple has yet to prove their claim.

So here is my question to you PPCGEEKS Are you confused by this? Do you think that Apple has the right to sue Amazon over their use of the word App? If Apple wins this lawsuit does that mean that anytime someone writes or talks about apps that Apple is entitled to something? What do you think?

Verizon HTC Thunderbolt owners have been frustrated about random reboots, battery life, and GPS lock times, along with other issues, since release. The first update cured some of these issues, but some still remain. Well there are now some new signs pointing to an update for June 30th and with Gingerbread in tow. At least that’s what these new leaked images show us.

We know that a fix was is in the works, and it was supposed to come during the second half of June. However, we hadn’t heard any other info about the OTA update, except that MR2 was rumored to have been delayed a bit longer, as has been the case with most every announcement surrounding this device, since we first heard about it.

Well, It seems that this is not just a maintenance release, as has been expected. The leaked document shows some impressive additions to the upcoming update, including features like:

• Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread
• pre-installed Amazon Appstore
• Skype video functionality
• gTalk video compatibility (which comes default with Android 2.3.4)

So it would appear we have quite an impressive update to look forward to.
Not only do we now have more details, but we have a date to expect it.
So if things stay on schedule, we should be expecting to have access to this update as of June 30th.

Hello again PPCGeeks! This is Oridus bringing you the first look of Angry Birds: Rio. This installment of Angry Birds has been a highly anticipated addition to the super popular game series for iPhone (and pads and pods and such) and Android devices. This version is an exclusive version to Amazon’s App store that they attempted to launch this morning, but quickly removed it, therefore stopping most people from getting their paws on a copy of Angry Birds Rio. As always though, there’s someone who discovers the magic quickly enough and has extracted the APK for us, and has it posted on XDA Developers.  I was able to get my hands on a copy as well and installed it on my HTC Inspire 4g, and did a little first look video. So here you are with your first glance at Angry Birds: Rio.

[Update] Since Amazon was only offering the game free for one day, we have removed the link to the apk. We hope that everybody’s as excited about the game as we are, and can’t wait till Amazon can get the app store up and running again!

UPDATE: According to Engadget, (link here) the Wall Street Journal just confirmed Amazons plans for their own Android App Store. The date of release is still unannounced but based on the information we provided you last week, this news gives much more assurance that this launch is definitely going to happen. The tablets haven’t been brought back up just yet, we are still waiting for more information on those as well. According to the Wall Street Journal, Amazon also states that no app will be sold for less, anywhere. This is another statement we would like to see proven right! Our ears are open for release dates and we will let you know.

Everyone knows Amazon.com sells lots and lots of stuff. Besides its tremendous product range, Amazon makes every possible attempt to customize the buyer experience. According to TechCrunch, Amazon has been busy increasing their product range yet again, targeting cellular and pc users. What began as rumors, have now been proven true by tipsters and leaked all over the web.

Weeks ago, Amazon started reaching out to developers about an opportunity and making interested developers sign a NDA before proceeding further. Following, one developer began discussing Amazon’s proposal and another talked about the plans for the payment system. Now speculators are sure that Amazon is going to release their own Amazon app store, and it looks like it may be a competitor to Android’s official Android Market. (link here)

Amazon isn’t stopping there. They are moving beyond just an app store and working to release their own Amazon Android Tablet, according to the same tipster who was right about the Amazon app store. We can only assume that this tablet will run Android, allowing access the Amazon app store to work. We are following these stories and will keep you updated when the official releases are available.
