If you have not already heard about it, this is great news! Apparently the Samsung Galaxy SII rumors are true and this bad boy has been approved by the FCC. What’s so sweet about this device is that it supports 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequencies, meaning it’ll almost certainly come with dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi. We heard this is one of the first phones ever to come with this feature.

Looks like this may also be a hybrid (dual band) device which is great for developers if so. Sources suggest it’s potentially headed to AT&T as well as Canada. Which ever place it will go first it shouldn’t be too much longer before you start seeing images and prices flooding the internet.

For now let us know what you think in the comments box below.

The days of using remote controls may soon be over. Several smartphones and other devices now have the capability with the use of applications to replace your remote control for your TV. The Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy Tablet are the most recent additions to this new technique.

This Android application does require your TV and the device to be connected on the same Wi-Fi connection where the remote will try to find the TV and add it. Then you are free to use your Samsung Tab or Galaxy phones on-screen QWERTY keyboard, with a 4-way directional pad, to input necessary information for TV functions, control settings and apps on the TV.

TV models supported that we know of so far include: 2010 models supporting Internet@TV (model code ‘C’), LED 6500 Series and higher, LCD 650 Series and higher and PDP 6500 Series and higher. Reports of several 2009 models are working as well.

Download it now here!

If you haven’t already heard the truth, there will be no fee’s for Samsung Android updates. These rumors have gotten pretty strong lately and Samsung has recently confirmed, with this statement to phonescoop, “No. Samsung is not charging carriers for Froyo updates to Galaxy S. We hope to have more detail on status shortly. Promise!”

What may have started the rumor was when one reporter suggested he thinks the delay in the Galaxy S getting Froyo may be because they want to start charging for it. This however isn’t the case but several people believed it and it did cause some concern. Thankfully Samsung came through hastily and let everyone know!

What we are curious to know is what “is” taking so long? What do you think?

Were you one of the ones who may have started to believe this or did? Or were you one who knew it was not going to happen? Either way, were glad it’s not and were sure you are too! Let us know what you think in the comment box below.

So we all know that the Samsung Galaxy S line of phones consists of some of the hottest selling devices among all carriers, and worldwide. Every month we’ve seen reports of how many millions of Galaxy S phones Samsung has sold. Every major carrier in the US has one version of them, whether its the At&t Captivate, T-Mobile Vibrant, Sprint Epic 4G, or Verizon Fascinate. When these phones were released, they came loaded with Android 2.1 Eclair with promises that they would be getting Froyo. Some rumors even speculated on dates, saying it would be pushed out before the end of 2010. Unfortunately, that rumored promise left many owners frustrated as that time has come and gone now.

While this original leak/tip came from T-Mobile, we can’t help but wonder if the same thing applies to all US carriers since none of the US versions of the Galaxy S phones have gotten an official Froyo update. AndroidSpin got a tip from someone they consider a reliable source that basically says T-Mobile has a working Froyo OTA update, but Samsung has told them not to release it because they feel it will hurt sales for their upcoming Vibrant 4G+ (which is rumored to be a Vibrant with a front-facing camera and support for HSDPA+). The report even says that the original Vibrant can support FULL 4G speeds with this update.

We’ve seen Froyo being pushed out to the European versions of the phones, just nothing in the US. GPS is still broken for many users, which was also promised to be fixed. I’ve read on many forums where people say the Galaxy S will be their first and last Samsung phone, and I, personally, feel the same way. Most of my previous phones have been HTC or Motorola, even a Nokia was thrown in there. This was my first Samsung phone, and because of the way this has been handled, it’ll probably be my last. I have At&t, so I have the Captivate. When Windows Phone 7 came out, I wanted to try it out. My choices were between the HTC Surround and the Samsung Focus. Even though everyone was jumping on the Focus, I went with the Surround purely because it WASN’T made by Samsung.

Dare I say it (let the flaming begin), but this sounds a little too Apple like…adding a few features to an existing phone and releasing it as a new device and holding back on OS upgrades for the previous models until the new one comes out. Sound familiar? Just my opinion of course.

How do you feel about this news? Do you think its real, or real fake? If you own a Samsung smartphone, will it be your last one?

We know that the upcoming Android Gingerbread won't have minimum hardware requirements, but that may be a different story for Honeycomb, Google's tablet-optimized version of Android. But will it hurt the Android by making it fragmented?

We know that the upcoming Android Gingerbread won’t have minimum hardware requirements, but that may be a different story for Honeycomb, Google’s tablet-optimized version of Android.

WIth Rumors that NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core CPU will be the design reference for Honeycomb, it may end up actually being a requirement. There’s also rumors that the next version of the OS [aka Honeycomb] may even require a display with a resolution of 1280×720…but hey believe it with a grain of salt ok?!?

Bobby Cha, managaing director of Korean consumer electronics firm Enspert, confirmed the CPU requirements for Honeycomb, and also said that it won’t require a 10 inch display…and that Honeycomb can run on a smaller 7 inch screen. Cha also confirmed that Motorola would be the first tablet to ship with the upcoming Android OS, which here at PPCGeeks we have always believed that.

Now some people might be wondering with these requirementsts in place, then that Galazy Tab won’t be getting the update…Well you are so right, sucks huh? Well to put your mind at ease just think that with all the trouble Samsung is having with getting Froyo out to their fancy Galaxy S line that we could wait that long if not longer for Honeycomb to hit a tablet…But then again who knows maybe these requirements aren’t as hard as the seem, and we’ll only know until Honeycomb is officially released.

Now my prediction is though if Honeycomb does have such requirments that Android OS will become even further “fragmented” which can be frustrating to both the user and the handset makers. I am hoping that we will hear more about these “requirements” in due time, but for now we’ll just drool at the upcoming tablets at CES…

What are your thought PPCGeek Android fans? I mean will this hurt cell phones by not having a “Honeycomb” or is it just best to wait till a bigger better OS is out for you all to move too? Let us know in the comments below!
