Although most of you are probably running a cooked Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM from our forums, some of you will be happy to hear that a Sprint brochure shows that the Touch Pro 2 will be upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6.5 in March. Our user platin465 was kind enough to post an image of the Sprint Small Business Catalog.
Update: Our user 99accordv6 was nice enough to give us the tip on 3-19-10 and supdawg has posted a screenshot that now shows the update will be available this Friday, March 19th.

If you remember back in December, there was the T-Mobile HTC leaked roadmap, and on that list was the HTC Tera, which was slated for an April release. Well, it looks like they’re behind schedule, because now rumor has it that it will be a Q3 2010 release and will only have Windows Mobile 6.5 on it. Its rumored to have a 3″ WQVGA resistive touchscreen, dualband HSPA, WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and GPS/aGPS. It’s based on Qualcomm’s 600MHz MSM7227 chipset with 512MB of ROM and 256MB of RAM, and measures 115 x 53 x 15.5 mm. So it is definitely smaller than the Touch Pro 2 and also no Snapdragon processor. So, with Windows Phone 7 just around the corner, would you buy this phone? We’re thinking most people will wait for Windows Phone 7 to ship.

The developer team over at alldroid.org has managed to gain root access to the version of the Motorola Milestone which was recently released by Telus Mobility in Canada. At first glance this doesn’t seem like news; both the Droid and Milestone were rooted months ago. The difference is the Telus version was released with …

Rumors are that it will have 512mb of RAM (with about 320mb available to the user), an 8MP camera, and an underclocked Snapdragon processor at 768MHz (like the Acer Liquid). It will also have Android 2.1 with SenseUI. Measurements are 117.5 x 58.5 x 11.9mm. Its expected to head to Verizon in Q2 2010.

While Vodaphone is calling this “an isolated incident”, they have apparently sold a phone that came pre-loaded with malware that would send personal information back to the malware creator when it was connected to a computer. It was infected with the Mariposa bot client, and also with the Confiker and Lineage password stealing viruses.

We’ve heard rumors of a Sony Playstation phone before, but now WSJ is reporting from someone “close to the matter” is saying that Sony is developing a new line of smartphone devices capable of downloading and playing Playstation games. It is said to compete against the Apple iPad/iPhone/iPod and other “multifunction products”. They are expected to work with Sony’s new online service, which was developed to compete with iTunes. So, voice your opinion, fact or fiction? What OS could it run?

For all of our Verizon Android users out there, if you’re willing to take the chance, you can finally get Android 2.1 for your Motorola Droid or HTC Droid Eris, unofficially of course. So far, we’ve seen reports that the ROM is working good (here for the Droid Eris) once you figure out how to flash it (here is information about how to do it on the Eris). Here’s some information on getting it to work on the Motorola Droid. Here is some more information and a video of it running on a Droid. Many believe this will be the update that will be pushed OTA, but there’s no word on when that might happen.

Google has announced a new program dubbed the “Device Seeding Program”, which will offer free Nexus Ones or Motorola Droids to proven developers (those in the Android Market with at least 3.5 stars and over 5,000 downloads). The end decision is of course Google’s, so there’s no guarantee that you’ll get a free phone even if you’re a proven developer.
