The US Copyright office received many comments regarding the “exemption from the prohibition on circumvention of technological measure that control access.”

They released these online for all to see and if you notice at number 14 there’s Jay Freeman, who hosts Cydia (the third party app store you can only get by jailbreaking).  It is actually a really good read and explains very well why the jailbreak community does what it does.  The purpose is to continue making jailbreaking, unlocking, rooting, HSPL flashing, etc… legal in the U.S. and give consumers power over their own devices.

Not all comments are “for” freeing devices; some may have the opinion that it somehow hurts companies or carriers.

I know this forum has many guides on voiding your warranty, but I also know some people who have kept their device purely stock.

What do you think about this?
