Sprint Gags Its Employees About…
Sprint has issued a gag order on anything to do with the iPhone. Sprint sent out a gag order to their employees stating "If asked about the iPhone coming to Sprint, please just say you have no comment, no answer, and to direct them to the Sprint Newsroom.
So here is my take away on this. The No Comment is very similar to what Verizon and AT&T were told when they first got the iPhone, this fits in with Apples Secret Cult of who gets what when... It also seems that they even asked the employee not to comment to family and friends... HMMM HUGE secret...
My guess - Sprint users get ready iPhone is coming... Is this good or bad?

This is extremely good for sprint. Choice is always a good thing, with the evo 3d, photon 4g, epic touch 4g and now the iphone 5. This is the first time sprint will have such an elite line up of phones.

@themuffinman,
You Are All Right Muffing Man
I hope sprint doesn’t give into the whole iPhone phenomena. Think about ATT, tmobile(ATT buy-out), and Verizon as soon as they got the iPhone bye-bye unlimited data. Sprint being the only one that still honor the unlimited data without a cap, bringing the iphone into question may change that. I am an average 3gb a month user, whether streaming movies on netflix or changing my ROM, and to cap me I might as well go to metro. So I join the no iphone fan-club and just say no to Apple.

@butwhydoitalk2u,
I can assure you that the average iphone user uses a lot less then 3gb of data per month that you say you use. I don’t care how bad ass any other phone is, nothing will increase subscribers for sprint like an iphone 5 being released on their network. I don’t know about you but I would like to see sprint gain market share which is more important now than ever before with the whole att/tmobile merger. Now personally I could give a damn about apple but sprint needs this if they are wanting to continue to compete with the big two.
sprint getting the iPhone is on the front page of USA Today, today…. My pops was just tellin me about it…… didn’t see it myself though
As I said last week, it’s irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. At this point it’s more of a “me too” device rather than a trend-setter, and it’s not that big of a deal.
It’s actually good news for Sprint since they’ll finally have something to offer besides “yet another Android of the week” special, and if it gives customers one more option to say “f— you” to AT&T-Mo then all the better.
But really, it did’t have a significant impact at Verizon, it’s definitely not going to make a dent on Sprint either.

@GoodThings2Life,
Actually, the iPhone 4 is one of Verizon’s top sellers. I also know that many people knew from the many rumors floating on the internet that the iPhone 5 would come out a few months later and they were holding out, so that’s why not many people are jumping on the Verizon iPhone yet.
With the iPhone 5 coming out well over a year behind the iphone 4, plus that its now coming to Sprint, than I pretty much guarantee you this thing will break all sales records. I think it will even outsell the both the iPhone 3GS and 4 combined.
Eventually, it’ll be just a two-way race between Android & iOS because I don’t see the Windows Phone going far, even today I still haven’t seen anyone use it. The same is gonna happen to RIM, all my friends had dumped it for either an Android or iPhone device.

@NIKKG, Where do you live, if you are in the Kansas city area, I will drive to you and show you someone using WP7…

@JasonFieldz, couldn’t you just show him yours..but I will have to somewhat agree that things aren’t working out for WP7 lately..comscore just announced numbers for this quarter and winmo+wp7 lost almost 20% of its marketshare in the USA just this quarter..
http://www.comscore.com/Press_Events/Press_Releases/2011/8/comScore_Reports_July_2011_U.S._Mobile_Subscriber_Market_Share
And even with mango it will soon be competing against the iphone 5 and ICS running higher clocked dual-cores…heck maybe even quad-cores.
Also it would be funny if sprint got the iphone 4gs isntead of the iphone 5 >.> lol

@NIKKG,
If you paid attention to the news last week, orangekid posted an article about how the iPhone as an individual device IS outselling any other individual device. They are most certainly NOT outselling Android phones though, so let’s make sure that’s clear.
Moreover, selling (I think it was) 6 million devices since its release on Verizon isn’t exactly stellar when you consider that Android as a platform is registering 550,000 devices PER DAY (estimated, claimed, though I agree that sounds high too).
As for record sales, well, duh… that happens at every Apple launch and then people begin to realize what a snooze-fest the new version is compared to the previous and things settle down to reality again.
Anyway, I’m a Windows Phone guy, and I always will be… but whether Android wins over iPhone, or Windows Phone, or both… I don’t care. But I’ve been work tech for 20 years, and I have never and will never like Apple as a company. I’ve seen far too much of their truth over the years to be sucked into their BS.

@GoodThings2Life … silly typos! I meant “But I’ve been working* tech…”
“No Comment”… haha
Well considering how bad my signal levels are with my Epic and Apple’s death grip history, we’ll probably see a record high sales, and even a higher record in returns…
iPhone on Sprint = iPhone on Metro and Boost…
iPhone on Sprint = iPhone on Metro and Boost…
I posted this comment in another thread. Here I made minor clarifications.
……..Assuming ATT truly buys TMOBILE and the general population of the new “merger” does NOT agree with the “new” ATT for whatever reason then there MAY BE an exodus. That would theoretically overload the remainder of the wireless providers meaning that “maybe” Sprint may use said event as an excuse to limit data.
On the other hand if the ATT and TMOBILE merger/buyout is acceptable to the general population but some continue to seek an unlimited data plan and ATT wont provide it then since we MAY see a cross over. The iPhone 5 being an attractive device for those seeking it. Same may happen with Verizon clients.
What will be the end result? A more balanced distribution of clients among the top 3 wireless providers making, I hope, everyone happy. That would mean no one will have an excuse to NOT PROVIDE unlimited data since they cant cry “overloading”.
Which as either gTEN or GoodThings2Life said at some point, regarding network overloads, is BS.
The issue in the end wont be, i feel, a frenzy for the new iCrap but who offers the best plan for the lowest buck. Though others offer a variety of mobile OS’s, new and innovative products, some offer low prices Sprint will offer all the above, unlimited data and for the time being the best all around price. The latter two being the most attractive.
Not to sound annoying, but the title that currently reads, “Sprint gags it is employees About…” should read something more like, “Sprint Gags its employees about…”, right? Or am I on the wrong tracks…

I think its game over for WP7 , i mean now all major networks will have IOS and android devices….

@oppman, that’s just shortsighted. Microsoft’s losses are due to WM6 devices no longer being available on a carrier… and a lack of options with WP7 devices, so of course people are moving on. I expect the next year to see a resurgence as they continue to innovate the platform and get more devices out there as choices.
Blackberry and Palm are the ones essentially dead now, but just as Sprint is a distant 3rd compared to AT&T-Mo (why has nobody else picked up on this naming) and Verizon, it’s fine to have a 3rd party. Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft… nobody would have expected Microsoft to be successful, and it took some effort. I expect nothing less this time around.
on unlimited data…only a few people ever go past that 5Gb ceiling. Tiered data is tiresome, and really its the principal of it all. But at the end of the day…it might save money for some. Now, if they tiered the data…and dropped the “premium” data charge…LOWERED the overall price plan (across the board) since data is a separate charge…and maybe even dropping the hotspot charge (which most of us here don’t worry about that ANYWAY ;p)…THEN…I think its advantageous for us subscribers. BUT…since when has Sprint been this nice.
on iPhone5 being good for Sprint…I think its VERY good for Sprint…the company keeps its subscribers…maybe pull in some new ones…the company gets stronger only bolster its position to get those elite bleeding edge devices.
on Android vs iOS…issue has been addressed by many for the fragmentation of Android. Top of the line Android devices SUPPOSED to get the latest and greatest android version. mid level/budget devices run older versions of android. iOS stays the same since its one line of devices from one manufacturer. Apple FORCES you to upgrade your iDevice after a couple of years if you want the latest and greatest. Ever notice that jailbreak community really DON’T force custom ROMs on their iDevices (at least it’s not AS widespread as the old WinMo 6.X or Android now) Think there’s a place for both OSes but in the end…Android/Google…really should streamline their OS. There are plenty of apps that can’t run on certain “top of the line” devices since the different versions of android “can” be so different.
on WP7….seriously?!?!…looks nice and all…(i like that interface) but is it really exciting enough OR better yet SEXY enough to compete with iOS or Android??

@amw1972, 90% of the apps should run on all top end devices..most of the time if an app does not run on a top end device it means they went outside the boundaries of Google’s API. This is common in games and etc that take advantage of native functions. As of 2.3 though it introduced render-script which is an API for using those functions.
As long as developers follow the API there is no fragmentation…at least on top end devices. On low/mid range its up for grabs due to weaker processors, that said it seems 1ghz is the new “mid-range” so even mid-range devices should be decent enough to run most apps…only remaining problem I can see is manufacturers should really stop sticking HVGA screens on phones…I mean there is now QHD..so they should at least be putting WVGA screens on mid range phones!!!

@gTen, exactly right… just look at the PC market today. They all run the same flavors of Windows on them, but not all are as capable of systems as others… especially in the same areas– games and media. Those developers push the boundries of hardware by design.
Who cares. I don’t, for once. There’s WinMo which is old but still good, there’s Android and there’s Windows Phone. They all are very powerful platforms which allow wide range of uses. iPhone is so locked down, I definitely won’t ever consider it. And the whole “novelty” of it is rather old now.
dont forget about Virgin Mobile and their $35 plan

@551skydiver,
That is when sprint gets the Iphone… someone will be able to flash it over… just like boost or metro.
Doesn’t matter what devices or phones Sprint gets, it is it’s service they have to revamp. Upgrade the network towers so they can support LTE 4G. I want want always on and accessible 4G. Not having to turn it on and search for a signal. Tmo’s 3G is as fast and readily available in most areas. In in metro Miami, I’ve never been able to get a stable network connection and Sprint’s 3G is less responsive than MetroPCS’s 1x… New Hardware and Unlimited Data is worthless without access to the signal.
gTen Reply:

@clockcycle, That problem is not a limitation of wimax…LTE or Wimax in same band will get you same results…bigger problem is Sprint is not putting up as many towers as needed with it due to it being on 2.5ghz spectrum(skimping on costs) ..the only time their network will gain any improvement is when Lightsquare does it for them >.>
i[hone set to come to Sprint mid Oct. I’l be sticking to my android tho.
