Do You Hate To Talk? Survey Says Smartphone Users HATE Talking!
So if your a smartphone user, and let's face it - we all are here at PPCGeeks! It appears that a recent survey finds that most smartphone users hate talking on the phone. It says we prefer other means of communication, like text, email, or IM clients.
Phone calls are apparently "too time-consuming or intrusive," according to survey respondents, with nine out of ten people preferring texting. Half of the respondents had negative feelings toward calling and voicemail, with attitudes ranging from finding calls too intrusive to outright hatred of voicemail.
Now what I find funny is that we have described what we do now adays in communication as "cloudtalk". This is where we use social media (Facebook, Google+, etc) to talk to people instead of voice.
"What we're seeing at CloudTalk is that people love to talk, as long as it doesn't require our immediate attention," said CloudTalk CEO David Hayden. "We can respond on our own time and see the entire conversation thread at a glance -- it's just more convenient."
Now if I may add my own insight to this little study...Cell Phone have become very sophisticated, in the fact that we can watch entire movies thanks to Fox Studios, stream music, watch netflix, even edit photos like a pro. It would seem to me that if we were in the middle of any of these activities we would be very unhappy to stop to talk to someone like our boss, or parents, or the wonderful, lovely husband/wife (or dreaded however you look at them). Now we can even play Xbox Live games on our phones - thanks Windows Phone 7! But even still in the middle of Ilomilo, or Hydro Thunder Go, the last thing I want to do is mess up to answer a call...
So you tell us PPCG is this survey correct? Do 9 out of 10 smartphone users have voicemail, and voice calls? If so why do you dislike (or Hate) the power of voice? Tell us below!

I agree with it in that I’m one of the people that dislike voice. I tend to prefer texting. Like the survey says, I like to be able to reply on my own time. If I’m in the middle of something, I can read the message, but my reply might be able to wait. When I get a phone call, I either have to answer it right then and there, or ignore it, in which case they’ll probably call back again.
Some people insist on calling, and I hate it. Its one thing if its my boss, or s/o, but its another if its an ex (in my case lol), or someone else. Sometimes I’ll get 3+ calls in a row for something that’s not very important. Instead, they could have just texted me and I could have replied when it was convenient for me.
So for me, it depends on who the person is, but normall I prefer SMS, mobile IM, etc.
Finally a survey that makes sense…to me! I can’t say that I hate to communicate via voice, however I hate that calls in general are rarely on my time frame. If someone calls me and I am doing something more important (like saving the universe from giant brains from the planet Eternium (if you get that reference I know what you do with your spare time!)) I can’t spend time chatting with them and I amazed at how many people get offended when I tell them I am busy, or even worse they continue to talk like whatever they want is more important. SEND ME A TEXT, AN EMAIL, SMOKE SIGNALS…I DON’T CARE WHICH ONE YOU USE!!! Without a doubt I will respond to most other forms of communications faster than a call. I just wish my home phone had the same features.
“CloudSpeak” isn’t the only communication that doesn’t require your immediate attention: SMS Text messages as well as email are all held in your inbox to read whenever you feel like it.
Although personally, I feel like that bit about voice being too “time consuming” is a bit of a joke. I can complete a conversation out loud about ten times faster than writing it out (even on a full sized keyboard.)- You just can’t type as fast as you can speak, especially on a small device with a little keyboard. Not to mention the time it takes to hit send, the message to go down the wire, reach the recipient’s handheld, plus the other party still hasn’t even opened the message in the time it could’ve taken to complete the conversation out loud.
Alas, most of my communication isn’t out loud (PPCGeeks is still in text format, and I only send text messages or IMs when I have time to waste), but that which is out loud gets done quicker. Maybe as a mobile society we make it our goal to waste time because if we talked on the phone we’d have too much free time?

@2 Bunny,
I agree with 2 Bunny…
Yes!
I absolutely hate talking on the phone, but I hate to hear other people’s conversations even more!
I wish I could txt with my mind. I don’t like talking on the phone but the talk to text is pretty cool… I don’t use it because I have to talk. So…sticking with the keyboard.
I have this thing with women about talking on the phone. The one I’ve been pursuing lately seems to love to talk about nothing for long periods of time on the phone. In my eyes that is what a car is for. Quality time is best spent in person. My cell phone is my favorite means of entertainment besides my computer and television. I’m not one of those people who will turn down having fun with real people in person to retreat into a virtual world, though. I’m just not into long conversations on the phone unless it’s a family member or friend I haven’t seen in years. I have five lines on Sprint’s everything data plan and we use only 600 minutes a month on average. This means we have better things to do than gab on the phone for long periods. The people I talk to the most live close by so why spend literal hours on the phone. I think sitting for a long period of time (like my younger brother) is stupid too. If you would rather text for hours than pick up a phone and talk I think that’s not very bright. When I added my brother to my plan he sent 800 texts in a week.
@neopanther,
800 Messages out in a week? That is impressive (I don’t think I send that much out in a year).
Your brother deserves a medal.

Yeah. No exaggeration whatsoever. Not only that. It was before I had unlimited.
