WHEN is the Evo 3D Coming? Sources Say June 4th.
Though the sad realization of a locked bootloader is around the corner, there is a silver lining! According to our Forum Users, June 4th appears to be the rumored day that the Upcoming Android Sequel to the EVO 4G, the EVO 3D, is slated to release. According to their super hive-mind sleuthing powers, the users on our EVO 3D Forums appear to be talking it up with the various Sprint Stores, all hearing within or around the weekend of June 4th. We expect a very short turnaround on the hacking community (UnrEVOked anyone?) to start making attempts to break the device's will once it goes live.
We have yet to hear anything official regarding a release date for the device - but it's been common for carriers to wait until the last minute on their release announcements. There's only one way to be sure, we'll have to wait to see one in the wild!

This is the one I have been waiting for…held long enough to my TP2… lets just hope the battery problems are fixed….
@oppman,
i think sub-par battery life is expected of smartphones nowadays. hacking and all that goes pretty far but still you’re not going to get the battery life like your old flip phone.
@pwnsicle, nope..now that they finally decided to break the 1500mah battery size and by decreasing the die size of the CPU + Cortex A9 gives even more energy efficiency…
@gTen,
true but i highly doubt you’ll get 2 days of use without having to do some good battery practices, have an extended battery and of course change out a kernal…whereas back in the day most “dumb” phones could push 2 days without much trouble
i do agree though that smartphones will eventually become as efficient and hopefully more than older phones
@oppman, Never had battery problems with my EVO 4G, plus had the battery from my TP2 which woks in the EVO as a backup. The whole EVO battery thing was completely overblown.
@saibot, I dont want to turn off all the goodies to get more battery life, whats the use then?? i guess we will find out in 3 more days!!!
@oppman, I too still have a Touch Pro 2 and I think I will be getting the Evo 3d. Is there any word on a price yet? As far as battery problems go my phone is plugged in most of the time for playing music anyways so that is not an issue for me. I must say my Touch Pro 2 has served me well but I am ready to upgrade to something faster and with 4g (even though there is no 4g where I live).
This device will be harder to root than the original evo. from everything ive read it will ship with a signed bootloader or something similar. Hopefully there will be root soon after release. this will be an incredible device and I cant wait to get my hands on it.
I dont see whats so much really better than the evo….
@shatner, It is 2x better in almost every single spec?
@shatner, Higher resolution S-LCD screen, 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, adreno 220 GPU, 2X the RAM 4X the ROM, newer version of android, 1080p video, 3D capability, larger battery…. Yea I guess it’s difficult to find any improvements.
@saibot,
dont have to be sarcastic, damn
looks intriguing.
no longer excited about it. meh….
i now wish i had never rooted my evo. i had plans to get this day one but now not so sure since sadly im hooked on flashing and the options that comes with rooted phone… sigh
I guess time will tell on the evo3d and whether it gets unlocked. Personally I received an Evo replacement several months ago and didn’t root it again until last month and was fine playing around with custom icons, launchers, etc. I’m not sure it’s worth it to jump to the Evo3d either. Specs are great but so is the massive sense that is on there and resources it will use. I wonder if it will not be that much different from a performance standpoint. Could be wrong though. If we are able to root and try some aosp and senseless roms, that might be interesting.
gimmicks
it will be like getting a ferrari car to go to the grocery store lol
make calls tex messages surf lol
i have a friend that works at a best buy mobile and he said from either the 4th to the 14th of june the evo 3d should be released. best buy is taking pre-orders for a $50 deposit (they give you a receipt and a $50 gift card which you can use to buy the phone when it comes out)
I was going to get the Nexus 4g to hold me over, but now that it seems it is rootable thanks to HTC I will go for this for sure. It would be awesome if it was June 4th because I remember that being the day the OEvo was released.
heres what i think. I think there will be a small delay on the release because of the bootloader issue.
awwww locked bootloader…..
then again, the iphone is one of the most locked devices in the world, with wireless upgrade checks and everything, yet it has been cracked. evo hackers are some of the best out there. i’m sure toastcfh will find a way to root within days (he’s good) and joshua_ and the unrevoked team will have a full root cranked out about a month after release. if the iphone can be cracked, anything can.
radio shack said june 14th..
It comes out the 4th, the Evo drops to $149 like the Epic, the 3D will be $199. Normally Sprint releases on a Sunday, but this time its different. Stores should have them to show to customers, but not sell (obviously) by the 2nd.
Great discussion here.
I think now that bootloader will not be locked down the phone will be a great addition to this community and site.
