HTC has announced quite a few new Android devices coming out later this year. There’s even a couple that have a dedicated Facebook button (I know, I don’t see the point either since you just need to put a shortcut on your homescreen, but whatever works). As you may remember, back in November, there were talks about Netflix finally coming to Android. The main reason for the delay was security and DRM. Netflix has been available on the iPhone for a while and has been available on Windows Phone 7 since its launch, but it hasn’t been seen on Android yet. According to VentureBeat, Netflix is certifying new Qualcomm chips, meaning that existing ones might not be able to use Netflix. Read more…
As most of you probably know, Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer did a Keynote Address today at MWC11 (Mobile World Congress 2011). There were a few things discussed, including the progress of Windows Phone 7 (WP7) and the updates coming later this year.
He noted that 9 out of 10 WP7 users would recommend the phones to others and say its one of the easiest smartphone platforms out there. For most of us that have had the chance to play with the phones, it seems to take a week or more for the OS to grow on us, and we agree that its pretty easy to use and intuitive, but that also takes away from the modding community, at least for now. The days of using remote controls may soon be over. Several smartphones now have the capability with the use of applications to replace your remote control for your TV. The Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy Tablet are the most recent additions to this new technique.
I know we’re a little behind the ball on this one since it was announced on Monday, but better late than never right? The Kyocera Echo is the first dual-touchscreen Android phone on the Market. This phone will be available in Spring 2011 and will run Android 2.2 (Froyo) with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. Why no Gingerbread though? It has two 3.5″ WVGA screens. Its 4.53″ long, 2.23″ wide, and 0.68″ thick. There’s also no front-facing camera, only a rear-facing 5MP camera. It will also come with an 8Gb microSD card, expandable up to 32Gb. Read more…
