HTC aiming to roll out 60 million handsets in 2011 – Watch out!!
HTC is pursuing higher growth for 2011 following the appointment of its new COO Matthew Costello and other top-tier executives. What's their plan of pursuit? Keep reading!
Found at DigiTimes, HTC has informed suppliers they will eventually need parts and components for the production of up to 60 million handsets in 2011 compared to shipments of 20 million units projected for 2010. Really? 60 million? That's a huge number and if I had to guess would be amongst all carriers, CDMA and GSM. The information was provided by an anonymous HTC executive attending the “executive summit” HTC recently held in Taipei. There were reportedly 200 executives from over 100 companies in attendance.
With Samsung recently reporting their success of being the top Android handset maker, maybe among these 60 million reported HTC devices to be made in the future there will be several Android handsets to compete. Only time will tell. What do you think about HTC's rumored plans?

Love it!!! I have yet to have a poor quality HTC phone!!!
You haven’t had enough HTCs then Jrob
I doubt though that they can actually reach those numbers unless they inked deals to make phones for other names like they did with palm.
Try dealing with a touch pro jrob…
Its funny how a little competition makes you get off your ass. With the samsung galaxy series and the nexus s, htc is way behind right now so I can only imagine what cool stuff htc must have up their sleeves this coming year. In either case its all WIN for us geekers.
if they’re saying 60 million units, htc must have decided to stop raping their devices. the technology is there. just don’t understand why we’ve gotten gimped phones. our Evos are awesome, but they still dropped the ball. maybe htc has finally woken up. let’s start seeing these top of the line units.
@mbaseball3 – RE:Gimped Phones – Some of it had to do with the carriers themselves. Remember they pretty much subsidize the cost of the phone to get you to sign a contract. When the TP first came out it was a $500+ unit that with contract you could get for $200-$300.
The carriers at one time pressured the Hardware makers to keep the cost down to meet certain price points. And to do that the manufacturers would use cheaper and old tech parts.
Back then the Carrier Service and Coverage was the driving force in sales. These days it is much more about the phones. Look at how many people switched to AT&T just to be able to use an iPhone.
Too bad HTC hasn’t caught onto the new market by the time they released the TP2.
Or maybe they decided they spent all that money to develop it they might as well sell it. I don’t know but I do know that if companies like HTC don’t get with the program and start making hardware that outperforms whats out there now and continues to saddle us with two year old tech they won’t be in business for very much longer. Samsung seems to be more on the ball with their Galaxy release and the newer phones they are coming out with.
And who knows what Apple will come out with (aside from 4G) in the next incarnation of their phone and pad.
Here is my prediction: First company who makes a pad with a phone built in wins!
quantity over quality? H’bout they pay more attention to their high end amongst this planned chaos
With all the competition out there now for smartphones its no surprise they want to prove themselves. Htc is not a bad company and they have made a lot of great phones. Yes the Touch pro was a flop as i went through 4 of them, but there were alot of other phones I had from them that were good. Samsung has a great series of phones right now and no doubt the hardware is awesome, but they’ve had their problems too. My bro in law has the Vibrant which is awesome but it had a huge gps issue. So even the best make mistakes too.
I guess you can liken it too Intel and Amd too. Sometimes Intel has the best with no problems and sometimes its Amd. Or the same thing with Nvidia and Amd (Ati). In early 2000 Amd had the best cards out there, then Nvidia, then ati. You get my point
So the bottom line is competition is great cause it pushes the other companies harder like Htc. So I definitely cant wait to see whats in store for us!
yeah I get the carriers ‘order’ the devices from the manufactures of what they’d like to have on their system (Gimped), but 60 million is high. so either carriers pre ordered some hefty units or htc decided to say screw you carriers, were forcing our devices on you. like how I see it is that for example, htc builds the Evo 2, walks into sprint and says here ya go, this is what you should go with; which is some unbelievable device that even sprint or any other carrier could think of. so in other words, htc starts marketing devices instead of building to order. but I guess time will tell. just out of the box thinking.
