Report: Samsung now top Android handset maker
According to research company Gartner, Inc., the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company, Samsung is now the top Android handset developer. Of course as Engadget put it, this is what happens when you manage to launch essentially the same smartphone on every national carrier in the US, plus the top regional?! Wouldn't you expect the same results?
Recently, Samsung proudly announced that they have sold around three million Galaxy S devices in the US including the Fascinate, Captivate, Epic 4G,Vibrant, and Mesmerize on Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and US Cellular. This gave them 32.1 percent of the US Android market share in the third quarter according to Gartner. This was more than enough to bump Samsung into the number one spot. Nice job Samsung!!
With this report spreading like wildfires we are curious to hear Motorola/HTC's response. What will they do to step up their game now or will they disagree with these results? What do you think? Let us hear it!

Yawn
ill counter with a WHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
aww sorry you’re bored by this capthr. bless your soul!
it’s the hottest news topic of the day!
im glad to read this. i feel like with the sgs they have really put out a good product. now if they can keep up the good work and follow up with timely updates, i think they can really retake the good name they used to have in smartphones with the omnia. i know there are a lot af naysayer regarding the update frequency on my model of the galaxy s (epic 4g) but i personally feel that having 3 updates since release and 2.2 on the way is keeping me happy.
hooray samsung.
I agree!! they are on top of their game that’s for sure!
I am gTen and I approve this message
lol
now bring us super amoled2!
Not to be negative but I think a clarification on this opinion is due. Samsung has made quite a lot of handsets recently but not all of them have been a jump for joy. Instinct is like one of the worst products on the market right now and little or no support has been given. Check out customer reviews. The Vibrant has been all but a piece of cake. Support for this phones also is limited.
For what its worth I own 2 Instincts, while a coworker of mine owns a Vibrant. In my opinion these products fail in the compatibility and integration departments. Instinct for example freezes almost all the time and if its not doing that then its just not responding. As i said in another forum I was able to fix most of these problems by uninstalling apps and installing an app killer. I guess freed memory allowed the phone to run better. But in the end the fix was minimal.
The Captivate, well as my co-worker stood next to me his phone was telling him that he was in a country roughly 1,600 miles away from where he presently stood. No matter what he did his actual position was not corrected for the next hour. Other customers of the same wireless company with other smart phones and GPS did not have that problem.
all the samsung faults seem to be software…
i believe them to be engineered well
the software hasn’t caught up fully to the device potential
this mixed with handbrewed applications to update the devices is causing problems
i noticed with the froyo release on the epic i had a new setting to enable/disable 3g (separate from the 4g) that wasn’t there before
while its not groundbreaking….the message keeps getting louder…
