[Review] Otterbox Defender For The HTC Hero

The good folks at Otterbox were cool enough to send me a Defender case for my Hero, so I went ahead and filmed my thoughts on it. Here we go:

It’s a good case by the company who set the standard for heavy duty cases. I’m a big fan of their built-in screen protectors and the way they implement them. It looks great and feels great in your hand. I also like that I can hurl it against things.

All that being said and thrown, the case isn’t perfect. The way it fits over the buttons doesn’t feel quite right and isn’t perfectly centered, making the trackball a little bit more challenging to use. Also, you lose the backlight of the hardware buttons. In that same vein, the port covers seem very odd simply in the way they were engineered. They work as expected, but you kind of have to earn it. I’m okay with it, though, because at the end of the day, i can still chuck my phone at walls all willy-nilly and still use the thing.

Overall, well done, Otterbox. The problems with the case are not deal breakers by any means and in no way overshadow the positives. If you need a good case for tough situations (or if you have a kid), the Otterbox Defender will hug your phone to safety in an attractive and reliable fashion.
