UPDATE

The video of the Web 2.0 Summit with Eric Schmidt has been added. If you have about 45 minutes to spare site down and start watching.

END OF UPDATE

Who knew Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, would be speaking today in the Web 2.0 Summit? We sure didn’t but are glad to get a tip of this. He brought lots of great information to the table and you are probably seeing this video all over the internet as of now. What we could tell from the video, Gingerbread is right around the corner!!!

As Engadget said, “We had a feeling Eric Schmidt would be doing something surprising at the Web 2.0 summit, and the man didn’t disappoint. He just showed off the Nexus S running on T-Mobile, and revealed it has NFC features, a technology he thinks will eventually replace credit cards. Unfortunately, he also called it an ‘unannounced phone’ from an ‘announced manufacturer,’ and the logo was taped over, so we’re not any closer to a release date here.”

Key Points From The Video:

  • Yes, that is a Nexus S running on T-Mobile (not a secret anymore)
  • Yes, he confirmed Gingerbread will be available in the next few weeks
  • When asked if Google would not be making a Nexus 2 he said it indeed wasn’t incorrect, hinting that a new “Nexus S” name may be in the works

Doesn’t this excite you even more? Especially those of you who have been anxiously waiting for Gingerbread. At least we aren’t in the dark anymore after everyone expected it to be released this past week. Thanks to Eric we now have higher hopes instead of doubts! Let us know what you think. Did you catch the whole live stream with Eric Schmidt? Were you impressed? I want to know what you think.
