Apple Working on Scratch-Proof iPhone

Apple has officially partnered with Liquidmetal Technologies, which started back in July, and began working on a new patent that will provide sturdier devices. Liquidmetal Technologies is a company who creates a metal alloy for products making them stronger, lighter and resistant to wear and corrosion. This partnership could make the consumer dream of a scratch-proof iPhone happen really soon!

According to Mobiledia, Apple filed an application for a patent called “Nitriding Stainless Steel for Consumer Electronic Products,” describing a cost-effective system for protecting stainless steel surfaces from scratches by layering “nitrides” on top of the surface. Does that sound interesting or what? “In addition to providing a durable, hard surface that is both scratch and impact resistant, the nitride layer allows for the natural surface color and texture of the underlying stainless steel to remain visible to the user,” the patent stated. “It is this natural surface color and texture of the stainless steel that adds to the aesthetically pleasing appearance of the consumer electronic product, thereby enhancing the user’s overall experience.”

If Apple can make this happen and still give consumers the slim, sleek styled iPhone they currently offer, I think consumers will be a lot happier. Several consumers currently scratch up their screens and the external shell and in most cases don’t have insurance. With a sturdier screen, things like that would not happen so often and consumers can have a little more piece of mind and not have to be super careful all the time.
