Pricing Announced for Kin One and Two
By Volunteer Newsie glittler!
The red-headed stepchild to Windows Phone 7, the Kin One and Kin Two finally received a release date and price. Both will come to Verizon Wireless' website on May 6th and brick and mortar stores on the 13th. The Kin One will set you back $50 and the Kin Two $100, after requisite two year contract and $100 mail in rebate. The shocker comes at the requirement of a $29.99/month Smartphone data plan on top of a voice plan.
Many in the industry had hoped that the Kin phones would only need $9.99 feature phone data plan putting it as a top of the line feature phone. Instead it has to compete in the same league as the Motorola Droid, iPhone, HTC HD2 and the Palm Pre Plus (Which costs less than even the Kin One). Hopefully the great social networking integration will be enough to make this more appealing to teenage users than the great lineup of smartphones available both on Verizon and other carriers.

For some reason I think these phones will be a failure. The sidekick did well when there weren’t many good phones with hardware keyboards. That is not the case anymore.
@ace741 – Agreed. These phones seem uber weak especially with forcing you to have the $30 data plan. Who in their right mind would get this over the incredible?
I wonder if Microsoft had any say in what Verizon would charge for Data on these. Personally if I’m going to pay $30 per month for data, I’m getting a smart phone with an established OS like Android, WebOS, iphone or even Windows Mobile 6.5. From what I’ve read these phones aren’t full on windows phone 7 devices which leads me to believe that the apps being written for windows phone 7 won’t run on the Kins. Maybe cross developing for these will be easy enough.
