At&t May Charge iPhone Users For Excessive Data Usage

Since At&t has come under fire recently for its network's abilities, At&t has now said that it may have to charge the heavy iPhone data users extra. AT&T claims that the high bandwidth usage, brought on by iPhone users, is causing network issues such as dropped calls, slow 3G network and problems connecting to the network. Consumers with the unlimited data plan may have to pay a penalty if they use more than 5GB a month soon.
A spokesperson for AT&T, De la Vega, said that 3% of the smartphone users are consuming 40% of the wireless bandwidth in the country. Most of the bandwidth is being used up by streaming audio and video applications on smartphones, which offer constant Internet radio steaming or YouTube video steaming.

wooooow
i hate iphones, but thats definitelty effed up
must we get them a dictionary and help them understand what “unlimited” means?
whats next, too much texting?
at&t has to wake up and face it with out the Iphone they would be DEAD
And here we thought At&T couldn’t get any worse. I hate the Iphone too and now have more reason to LOL at lame Apple Fanboys…
Mindfrost, I think you meant to put your update on the story below this one, about the text messaging stuff.
Like they couldn’t see that coming.
Continues to show how far behind we are in the Broadband world. Countries in Europe get 100Mbit connections which they can use unlimited and never get a complaint. Over here though, the hottest selling cell phone ATT has ever had, which already pays overkill prices to use, now are being targeted to pay more or use less. Why are so many companies in the US trying to drag us back into the 90′s? Get with the program you can’t pull the Internet backward.
Don’t iPhone cutomers already pay more?
its not apple that is the problem its AT&T
they shouldn’t offer something they cant keep up with
if your iPhone is not working apple will exchange it for you with no problem
but if you drop calls or have shitty service that’s on the at&t side and cant blame apple for it other than why going with them in the 1st place
im not an apple fanboy but im a loyal apple customer, and honestly, i dont have an iphone. i wish i did buti been with sprint for over 8 years and never had a problem with them so why change
i use tethering and have very very high data usage but does sprint ever call me to tell me that im using to much data? no
my cuzn owns an iphone and has tethering enabled and at&t called him a while back and told him he has unusual data usage and we argued with them that dosnt matter howmuch he use because its unlimited and we are planning on taking them to court if they kept at it.
Verizon is going the same way with limiting their data usage as well and charging extra for smartphones data plans claiming its different internet lolz
