Sprint Turning Things Around?

Barron's Weekly Newspaper has published a report stating that Sprint is finally turning things around after its disastrous merger with Nextel. This helped their stock value this week. Customers have been reporting the change for a while now, but they've still been losing customers and reporting losses. I think we have quite a few satisfied Sprint customers in our forums that can vouch for this turnaround also.
What has your experience been?

As of writing this the stock is down 5%, and anyone who bought a touch pro will argue against this =)
I switched from Verizon to Sprint last December and have been very pleased. On Verizon, I had a Motorola Q with a data plan; my wife had a dumb phone.
When I switched to Sprint, I got us both Touch Pros and signed up for the Everything Data plan with plenty of minutes (don’t remember how many; we don’t actually talk much on our phones). Sprint’s Everything Data plan comes with turn-by-turn navigation for free, which would cost $10/month/phone on Verizon.
So when I signed up, I was already paying less for more – two data plans instead of one; unlimited textng; turn-by-turn directions. I’ve since added my father and sister to my plan for $20/month each – also unlimited data, turn-by-turn directions, etc.
Another motivation for the switch was that Verizon crippled their phones: GPS routinely disabled (changing now; fewer Wifi enabled phones; and their Touch Pro had less memory AND TouchFlo disabled by default (huh?). Even with Droid, Sprint still has a better selection of smart phones.
And service has been great. I did not treat my Touch Pro gently, but I didn’t abuse it. It developed problems recently and it was replaced under warranty with no grief. In store staff has also been very helpful.
I understand people have historically had trouble with Sprint, but it’s definitely worth another look.
Why would be anyone who bought a Touch Pro argue against this? Sprint doesn’t make the phone but they are very fast and don’t even ask questions at replacing a broken one free.
Alas, my coverage is still too spotty for me (in the greater Portland, OR area). They’ve gotten a bit better on service, but that won’t be enough for me next time around…
I’m about to switch away from Sprint. I had a broken Touch Pro and they kept replacing it with refurbished (read, even MORE broken) Touch Pros repeatedly. Finally, after two weeks of contacting everyone up through Executive Customer Support, they finally replaced the TouchPro with a TouchPro2, however, this was after they pretty much said, “we don’t care if you leave”. So, i’m going to sell the TouchPro as of 12/28 when my contract expires. Get a Droid and move to Verizon. Not saying they’re any better but at least their coverage in my area is better.
I have to say that Sprint has always resolved all the problems I have had. My coverage is just as good as any other company in my area (better than verizon or at&t). At my house I cannot get service with any company but sprint fixed that by giving me a free AirRave. But most of all the data plans etc. just seem so much cheaper to me with Sprint than any other company.
I have a Touch Pro and love it. The problems, which have been well documented here (mainly the keyboard), were a pain but sprint always replaced my phone no questions asked, free overnight shipping and no deductible for hardware issues. Ive been with Sprint for 4ish years now and have never had a problem that hasnt been solved immediately. Plan costs are lower than other carriers, coverage is great for me and since Ive been a customer for a while I get the $150 upgrade credit every year instead of every 18 months or 2 years. Unless I encounter a major issue I cant see myself switching from Sprint at any time in the future.
Personally, The EV-DO (or 3G if you wish) coverage isn’t as good as Verizon, but the support (in my case) has been excellant and the price can’t be beat. Yes it has it’s quirks with the billing system, but so does Verizon – $1.99 phantom charge.
I’m very pleased with sprint, even tho we did have a few complications. I talked with their exec department and they investigated the matter and it was fixed very quickly, as well as I was compensated extremely well with a brand new Touch Pro 2 the day it came out, which was awesome. So they are really trying to please customers and have pleased me. My data connection, EVDO Rev. A has great connection speeds and quality of signal. As well, if I do have any other probs which I did have a couple small ones, they were very prompt and happy to fix them for me.
Bottom line, they are trying hard it seems to make /keep current customers. They are gonna keep me for now and with the new mobile to mobile plan, I can drop my plan down some to save some money and not go over my minutes at all.
I’m probably going to leave, as they don’t support any of the cooler phones on their SERO plans.
I’ve been with Sprint almost 5 years. I have had a few problems which were resolved quickly, and Sprint’s service has gotten much better in the past couple of years. I’m only waiting for 3G, and it’s closing in on my area soon according to Sprint. So in summary, I’m happy with Sprint and don’t plan on changing anytime soon.
the coverage and support is good, but the phones are very lacking, everyone else has a diamond2 or equivalent, verizon’s android kicks the hero’s ass. palm pre is decent at best, but the selection is weak, I could go cheaper on tmobil and buy GSM unlocked phones like hotcakes, probly will switch pretty soon if don’t release decent phones now.
I have been with Sprint ever since I had my own cell phone which is now three years. I have seen many forums where people have down talked Sprint like it was worst carrier ever. I personally have had the best exprience with them. Coverage is good in my area (Richmond,VA) and when on the road. People always tell me Verizon is better, but for that you pay twice as much. I have a 450 Everything Data plan, I enjoy it alot. Dropped calls are nil, there is a random occasion but usually it’s a bad area for verizon as well. Since Sprint roams on verizon, and my phone will switch to roaming with same amount of signal with sprint. Plus 23% discount my company offers makes me stay with them more. Enless sprint becomes bad with customer support and their phone selection gets worse I am satisfied. I am really enjoying my HTC Touch Pro 2 as well.
Umm a 6.5 official update would b nice. sometime this century. its bogus how we had the phone 1st and will probably be last 2 get the update
their coverage is great everywhere for me all over long island in my basement and at my other house in norwich ny (150 acres in the middle of nowhere and i get EVDO) never had reception problem with sprint.
I have been with sprint for about 10 years and worked for them 3 years and yes sprint is turning things around. the customer service has changed dramatically for the better. As for service I believe it is the same as verizon if not better.
Between any mobile anytime, new devices and the customer service that I receive when at my personal corp of choice. I can see why and I’m not surprised.
I like Sprint but I do have some gripes:
1. When I first cane on board plans were in place to add an EVDO tower in my town that would have gotten to me (They showed it on their website.) Now there are no plans.
2. I have been on WM for a while and am interested in trying out another OS. However I have to change plans even though I will not be doing anything different on say, Android, than I am currently.
That being said I have thought about making a change but will wait to see if there is any materialization of the Brave on Sprint.
I’ll be sticking around until i’m booted off my old sero plan.
Other then that…when i had my mogul replaced about a year ago i was getting my call routed to another country. Damn people couldnt speak english. Now when i call everything seems to be better in the customer service department.
I’m a 13 year customer, and have been pleased with Sprint overall. I must admit that the past year as been a challenge,I have the Touch Pro and I’m on my 11th phone. Sprint has replaced the phones with no out of pocket expense.
I am nearing my 8th year with Sprint and they are indeed getting much better. Due to any mobile I use almost NO minutes! Let’s see verizon beat that!
I’ve been @ Sprint for almost 2 years and it’s been Amazing yall! The customer service, the people, convenient store locations, phones, and web is awesome! My touch pro did 2 flips for them. I recommend all. except for the 1 part on giving up info to the man. but i wasnt in any crime ring, so i’m good. I think…
In my opinion sprint is the best phone company I’ve ever used. Their plans are incredible and their customer service is very nice and polite. Especially in my local sprint store also they are willing to go above and beyond what it takes to make you happy with your dream phone. Whether it has to do with price, features, etc.
